Job Description

 

The Regional Technical Service Manager will be accountable for process monitoring and optimization of customer units, recommending operating guidelines for optimum plant performance, providing troubleshooting and turnaround support, and developing catalyst performance evaluations and projections. The objective is to assist customers meet their objectives safely and reliably, and to support new business and sales for the joint ventures. Further aspects to this position include preparation of technical proposals for new catalyst opportunities. The candidate is expected to come up to speed quickly and develop organizational capability within the technical teams among Grace Tokyo, Grace Chicago, Grace Columbia and Chevron Richmond.

 

Interfacing with customers will be required to support catalyst loading and startup in addition to troubleshooting operational problems and delivering catalyst performance reviews.

 

Major Responsibilities 

 

Provide technical service for Grace’s hydroprocessing catalyst joint venture businesses:

  • Regular monitoring and interpretation of plant operating data to evaluate performance of customer units and catalyst systems
  • Develop catalyst activity and life performance estimates for customers
  • Troubleshoot both catalyst and process and recommend operating guidelines to optimize catalyst and process performance
  • Answer operating questions from customers and manage the exchange of technical information
  • Lead on-site customer turnaround assistance including catalyst loading and start up.
  • Work with the sales team by participating in customer proposal and review meetings
  • Administer guarantee performance test runs and develop solutions to problems
  • Support R&D team to proactively influence new catalyst development by bringing field and customer perspective

 

Support new business and sales functions:

  • Prepare new catalyst technical proposals and present in new and/or existing customer meetings
  • Give technical presentations at customer meetings and internal technology forums
  • Benchmark customers with respect to peer performance
  • Study customer performance improvements, monitor technology advances and feedback to customer
  • Engage customers and become essential technical resource for customers to meet their goals
  • Stay abreast of competitor technology and develop technical solutions to address threats to business

Required Skills

  • Technical Support – Direct experience in a refinery or in a technical service role supporting commercial operating units. Ability to monitor and interpret process data to evaluate unit performance and recommend changes to achieve operating objectives of the customer.
  • Hydroprocessing Experience – Technical experience in hydroprocessing operations within a refinery or technical service role. Experience with kinetic process models and simulators is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Catalysts – Experience monitoring catalyst performance and preparing catalyst proposals is preferred (eg. activity and cycle length prediction).
  • Field Experience – Basic understanding of how equipment functions in the field and overall plant operation is required. Knowledge and understanding of a broad variety of hydroprocessing specific equipment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Design Tools – Desired to have basic knowledge of process design tools such and process simulators.
  •  Communication Skills – Ability to communicate with clients clearly and effectively to positively represent ART to external companies and to promote our technology. Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and managers throughout work process is required. Ability to prepare and present sound technical reviews of operating performance to all levels of customer organizations is required.
  • Organizational/Leadership Skills – Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and manage multiple work activities to meet customer needs and expectations required. Must be able to interact with a variety of experience levels and position types.

Required Experience

  • Must have current or past experience in the Refinery or Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry at least 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have at least a B.S. in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Must have business English speaking, reading and writing skills to communicate with overseas customers and ART sale and technical team in various locations..
  • Approximately 20-30 % of mainly international travel will be required.
