Job Description

We're hiring a Logistics and Rail Specialist to focus on North America operations to the Sr. Mgr, Logistics & Warehousing. You'll be responsible for assisting in and ensuring the movement and tracking of raw materials and finished goods via rail and provide detailed information to support cost estimates, tracking of transportation and KPI's for review for future improvements and assessment.  You will ensure finished goods and/or raw materials arrive at the right place at the right time. Additional duties:


  • Establish relationships and interact with internal/external shipping locations, tollers, and transload facilities to ensure materials are supplied on-time and at an optimized cost
  • Support and collaborate with internal customers and stakeholders including Integrated Supply Chain (Order Fulfillment, Plant Logistics, Procurement, and Supply Planning)
  • Manage Rail Car fleet updates and maintain up-to-date car portfolio in SharePoint as well as with QTS, Rail Carrier Websites, and Railinc.
  • Work together with fourth-party logistics provider’s rail procurement and rail logistics teams
  • Manage and track railcar storage contracts, locations and monthly spend, while continuously ensuring that the rail storage network reflects the needs of the business
  • Perform railcar billing from all 3rd party (non-Grace) locations
  • Complete annual fleet sizing analysis to maintain business alignment and achieve maximum rail car velocity and minimum rail car dwell targets.
  • Provide timely railcar tracking and visibility to end of month revenue recognition requests
  • Provide rail freight quotes, storage and ad hoc logistics scenario planning upon request
  • Monitor and report on rail logistics key performance indicators (KPI's) for continuous improvement and cost savings.
  • Provide railway related project support and participation.
  • Analyze rail logistics performance and spend data and complete root cause analysis to identify anomalies/exceptions and lead corrective actions and improvement opportunities

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse audiences (internal and external customers)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and detail oriented
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge and/or skills in SAP
  • Ability to work in team environment, yet self driven to identify and lead improvement opportunities
  • A commitment to build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors

Required Experience

  • BS degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management or related degree
  • 3+ years’ experience in rail transportation, distribution operations and customer support or graduate of an accredited railway program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of rail logistics and Class I railroads
  • Lean Six Sigma
