Job Description

The Sr Analytical Chemist leads and participates in the production of Active Pharmaceutical Intermediates (API), including development and implementation of analytical methods for new processes.  They independently develop and validate innovative methods for new processes, participate on project teams as a member or leader and effectively coordinate related project activities, including resolution of customer and technical issues.  The Sr Chemist assists in preparing regulatory documents and training early career staff.

 

The Grace South Haven Site produces a portfolio of products for the specialty pharmaceutical industries, specifically Active Pharmaceutical Intermediates.  Consisting of a cGMP kilo lab, pilot plant and custom manufacturing at commercial volumes, the site is fully equipped to develop and manufacture custom drug intermediates and API’s.  South Haven is nestled on the Lake Michigan Coast with beautiful beaches and year-round fun.

 

The Sr Analytical Chemist is located in South Haven, MI and reports to the R&D Manager in South Haven, MI.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate methods for new production processes supporting drug development.
  • Identify innovative product development methods and improvements.
  • Participate on project activities, including coordinating staff, communicating timeframes, and ensuring completion of individual assignments.
  • Prepare regulatory documents, technical reports, development protocols, and other documentation.
  • Serve as technical resource for the department, and as needed to meet corporate goals.
  • Effectively interpret and defend analytical data and reports.
  • Manage hazardous waste in compliance with regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field
  • 3+ years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience performing advanced analytical procedures, e.g. High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC)
  • Experience in validation of applicable methods and knowledge of related regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and working effectively individually and on teams.
  • Experience preparing and making presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
  • Experience with regulatory requirements, analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Experience with Ion Chromatography (IC) and powder x-ray diffraction (XRPD).

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
