The EHS Manager ensures all employees perform their duties in a safe manner and healthy environment. They evaluate potential risks, perform behavioral audits, and initiate safety policies in collaboration with the plant leadership team, frontline leaders, Corporate EHSS and in compliance with OSHA and MIOSHA safety regulations.
As a member ofthe Site Leadership team, the EHS Manager also oversees and participates in accident investigations to determine root cause and required corrective actions. They foster an EHS environment of collaboration and active participation with all employees.
In conjunction with the Regional EHSS Manager, the EHS Manager will be responsible for planning, implementing, and enforcing the organization's Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) policies and procedures.
The EHS Manager is on-site in South Haven, Michigan and reports to the Site Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Process Safety programs in a process facility with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals and as implemented by MIOSHA Part 91, and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) 40 CFR Part 68 Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions.
- Lead and Manage site’s Process Safety Advisor and other safety professionals and compliance activities related to Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), incorporating industry best-practice methodologies, and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies.
- Supports administrative duties associated with managing site security and implementing required policies and procedures.
- Administer health and industrial hygiene programs (health screening, hearing exams, IH monitoring).
- Participate in compliance audits, emergency planning and response activities, and training of employees.
- Prepares and submits EHS compliance reports, ensuring they are accurate and on time.
- Administer safety training programs and provide direction and continuous improvement to meet safety, environmental, and operational training requirements and site goals.
- Manages EHS Tracking systems; finds areas for improvement and includes other EHSS programs as needed; tracks corrective actions and works with supervision on timely closure, including oversight of management of change (MOC).
- Works to ensure the mechanical integrity of the fire safety system and other plant infrastructure related to safety.
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 8+ years of chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial experience
- Supervisory and leadership experience.
- Experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA 40 CFR Part 68, hazardous waste, and wastewater regulations.
- Available for on-call and after hours work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 + years of EHSS experience within the chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial enviroment
- Experience with chemical manufacturing plants complying with Clean Air Act, OSHA PSM, EPA RMP
- Leadership within the EHS space
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders
