Job Description
Grace is seeking a Lab Technician to join our team! This role reports to the Quality Manager located at Pasadena!
The Lab Technician is responsible for conducting quality control testing on polyolefin catalysts and polymers, accurately recording all results in SAPQM, and performing routine maintenance and housekeeping tasks. This role operates on a 12‑hour rotational DuPont schedule. The Lab technician will work closely with team members to meet quality objectives and ensure a safe working environment.

Schedule: 12-hour, rotating shifts including days and nights, holidays, and weekends. Must work assigned overtime as needed.
1. Week 1: 4 consecutive night shifts, then 3 days off
2. Week 2: 3 regular day shifts, off for 1 day, then 3 night shifts
3. Week 3: 3 days off, then 4 consecutive day shifts
4. Week 4: 7 days off
Responsibilities
- Hold safety as a top priority, engage actively in the company’s safety program, and comply with all environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards. Report hazards, deviations, and injuries promptly.
- Perform testing on catalyst using analytical instruments such as ICP, Karl Fischer, GC, UV‑Vis, and Mastersizer in accordance with SOPs.
- Conduct laboratory experiments, including polymerization testing using bench‑scale autoclave reactors and resin analysis; accurately record data, observations, changing gas cylinders, and results.
- Manage daily laboratory operations, including processing sample requests, performing routine laboratory maintenance, and maintaining a clean, orderly work environment.
- Participate in site Six Sigma quality activities and initiatives to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain an organized and safe workspace in compliance with housekeeping standards.
- Work collaboratively with team members to achieve production targets and support continuous improvement initiatives. Communicates plant status with relief and coworkers.
- Participate in training programs to stay current with operational procedures and safety standards. Meet all training and progression requirements.
- Utilize computers and systems for reporting and communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are equivalent in skill to job requirements.
Required Qualifications
- B.S degree Chemistry or related technical field preferred, or High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus 5 years of experience in a chemical laboratory setting.
- Employee must be willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule including days and nights, holidays and weekends and overtime.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of chemical safety standards, hazard identification, and strict adherence to safety protocols when handling hazardous materials and operating equipment and using personal protective equipment (PPE) in a chemical plant environment
- Ensuring accuracy in monitoring processes, maintaining records, and conducting quality checks.
- Basic reading and writing skills to understand and interpret chemical records, safety data sheets, and operational procedures. Basic math skills, including the ability to perform measurements, calculate ratios, and adjust formulas as required in chemical testing.
- A foundational understanding of chemical laboratory equipment with the ability to troubleshoot and operate instrumentation effectively.
- Proficiency in data entry and equipment monitoring using relevant software.
- Working collaboratively with team members and effectively communicating with supervisors and coworkers. Ability to read, write, and type the English language.
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
