Job Description

We’re hiring a Project Estimator, who will report to the Engineering Manager for our Lake Charles (LC), LA site which is a leading manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals (SC) which is the world’s largest producer of Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst for refineries and be responsible for assisting to develop and maintain a consistent and structured approach to project estimating for the site. You’ll utilize existing Grace tools and deliverables within the Grace Project Methodology (GPM) to produce estimates at various project stages and improve upon local application of those tools and practices, including follow up on the cost performance in later stages to support cost control on individual projects and across the portfolio. Responsibilities include:


• Learn and maintains a strong working knowledge of GPM and Accolade, as well as estimating tools of the trade
• Produce project budgets and funding estimates at each stage gate with the appropriate level of detail, escalation and contingency per GPM guidelines and based on project size and complexity
• Becomes site SME in regard to LC area factors such as taxes as applicable to projects, and also for local cost trends in materials, contractor markups, base hourly rates by discipline, and application of proper productivity factors in the use of estimating tools such as ASPEN-ICARUS
• Work with Project Managers (PM’s) in all phases of projects to ensure alignment of the master project scope (control estimate) and estimates/proposals received from vendors and service providers for the work. Provide support and feedback to PM’s on bid evaluations through the life of the projects.
• Lead in the local development of a more robust and consistent WBS approach to the cost management from initial funding stage through the life of the project, resulting in cost structures that integrate well with SAP reporting as well as integrated cost and schedule management
•  Advancement in the application of WBS philosophy at the cost estimate stage will be coupled with a matching WBS approach to development of project schedules via MS Projects or Primavera, whereby enabling improvement and consistency in project cost forecasting
• Actively engage with PM’s in application of the Change Management workflow when necessary, giving in depth assessment of cost and schedule impacts of individual changes and helping ensure proactive documentation and DOA compliance, signoffs, etc. 
• Works with local and Corp Project Controls team members on portfolio management and continuous improvements on cost performance, forecasting, and predictability
• Plays an active part in annual AOP development, producing high level estimates and cost curves as needed to allow creation of a more credible forecasting approach to quarterly spend projections for the following budget year and outyears
• Maintain an ongoing dialog with the Maintenance and outage Schedulers/Planners to ensure project cost estimates and scopes are well aligned with outage planning and timing when applicable

Required Experience

  • B.S. degree highly preferred; In lieu of degree, a combination of education and/or relevant professional experience will be considered, such as professional certifications or training specific to cost, accounting and/or estimating will be given strong consideration
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in projects or a maintenance environment in the refining or petrochemical industry
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project cost accounting or estimating in the manufacturing industry

Required Skills

  • Direct experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager in multidiscipline projects and/or Construction Management in the industry

  • B.S. degree an engineering discipline
  • Leadership experience
