Job Description

We’re hiring a Project Controls Team Lead who will be embedded into the Lake Charles, LA manufacturing site to lead the Project Controls function. You will supervise a combination of staff and contract project controls professionals and create and maintain a portfolio of budgets in both the capital and fixed cost arena.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Corporate Project Controls to engage in addressing common needs, systems and workflow improvements on a corporate and local level
  • Supervise, mentor, develop and train members of the Project Controls team
  • Supports Engineering Manager and Capital Projects Team Lead in establishing effective methods of project prioritization and resourcing, while giving appropriate weight to the needs of individual stakeholder(s)
  • Becomes the Lake Charles SME and lead within the Engr Dept for the Capital AOP process and tracking/reporting of progress against monthly, quarterly, and yearly targets.
  • Lead the Project Controls team members in the creation and implementation of a standardized template for WBS’s (Work Breakdown Structures) to be applied to project schedules, estimates, cost reports throughout the project life cycle
  • Stay abreast of leading edge of technologies that can potentially improve Project Controls performance for the site, as well as serving as a Lake Charles leader in controls improvement initiatives, benchmarking
  • Supervise and support with the Project Estimators in creation and improvement of estimating practices geared toward right sizing for the portfolio and in tune with local market conditions.
  • Liaise with external engineering companies and estimators on best practices that align with internal Grace procedures and work processes.
  • Lead the workflow for the project group as it relates to coordinating individual Project Change Notices (PCN), such that PCN reviews and DOA on all projects
  • Use the data from the PCN database to produce analysis and reporting of change-trends, works with Engineering Manager and Team Leads to recommend and implement effective corrections in either execution practices or in estimating and scheduling
  • Supports Purchasing/GRs/New Vendors/Requisitions
  • Develop and implement post-project audit workflow and tools
  • Supports Fixed Assets with the proper and timely closure of commissioned/in-serviced assets.

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working in petrochemical and/or refining environment that included turnarounds or maintenance planning projects requiring responsibility of performing cost controls and project scheduling.
  • Experience with projects valued between $10-50M+ and smaller projects valued at $50k-10M that require managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with performance management to include training coaching and mentoring employees and overseeing contractors.
  • Strong knowledge and leadership in application of project controls tools and workflows (SAP, MS Project, Primavera, EXCEL, contingency and risk analysis)

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in an engineering discipline, along with project management and/or industrial construction experience

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
