Job Description

We’re adding to our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team at our Lake Charles, LA manufacturing site and hiring a Process Safety Engineer who will report to our EHS Manager. While the site is not PSM regulated, EHS is an essential element and focus at Grace. As the Process Safety Engineer, you will have overall responsibility for managing the Process Safety program and compliance obligations and serve as the primary site process safety resource for consultation with site personnel and business team members. Additional responsibilities include:

 

 

  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) per Grace standards and industry best practices  
  • Perform hazard reviews, ensure up-to-date process safety information is maintained, perform engineering calculations
  • Subject matter expertise in application of HAZOP/What-If, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, Pressure Relief System Design, or Process Control
    Collaborate with other members of the site to champion advancement in the site process safety culture through the use of Leading Metrics
  • Provide training for all site employees to understand process safety as a discipline, regulatory obligations, and individual & group responsibilities related to process safety.
  • Oversee the site Management of Change (MOC) program to ensure changes are properly managed and documented in accordance with regulatory requirements and Grace procedures
  • Collaborate with site Maintenance and Reliability department on the execution and progression of the site's Mechanical Integrity program 
  • Conduct internal facility walk-throughs and audits for hazard identification and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in property risk insurance audits and take the lead on driving identified corrective actions to completion.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% to other Grace sites

Required Skills

  • Proficient in PSM principals to include performing PHA, LOPA, HAZOP
  • Experience with driving change management  
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment (leading and participating)
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership and accountability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in MS office suite

Required Experience

  • BS Degree in CE, ME or related Engineering degree
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience working in a petrochemical environment, including at least 5 years working in a PSM-covered facility

  • Experience using PHAWorks, SAP and Enablon
