Job Description

WR Grace, a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals, is currently seeking experienced/Fresh Graduate Plant Operator for our team at Gebeng Kuantan, Malaysia Plant . This role will be responsible ensuring safe operations of Wet End and Dry End sections with compliance to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) & Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements in delivering the required product quality and quantity.

 

At the Kuantan site, all employees have a role in upholding environmental, health, and safety standards. Each team member is accountable for ensuring compliance with our EHS policies, including emergency preparedness and response, as outlined in both site-wide and local area documentation.

Responsibilities 1 of 2

  • Operate and monitor all processes and equipment at Wet End and Dry End to ensure they are in good and safe condition. 
  • The operators will be assigned on a rotating basis, covering both wet and dry operations. The Shift Supervisor will arrange the rotation schedule.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, EHS policies, and procedures always.
  • Communicate closely with the Process Technician and the Shift Supervisor regarding any issues or non-conformances in day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure all equipment under his care is checked and evaluated according to the log sheet.
  • Collect and label all necessary product samples accordingly and deliver them to the QC Lab in a timely manner.
  • Operate a forklift to transport all necessary materials required for the manufacturing line.
  • Perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) as and when required.
  • Be certified as an Authorized Gas Tester and Entry Supervisor and perform necessary duties as required.
  • Be certified in Confined Space Entry and work in confined space areas within the plant as required.
  • Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team during emergencies.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in accordance with 5S standards at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the superior, as necessary.

Specified Job Responsibilities at Wet End Section :

  • Monitor and perform the Normality Test at the Tubline when it is in operation.
  • Collect raw materials, raw water, and in-process process samples and send them to the QC Lab for analysis.
  • Ensure the safe and effective transfer of hydrogel from K-Units to the respective hydrogel silo.
  • Ensure safe unloading of raw materials such as sodium silicate, ammonium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, and water tankers into their respective tanks.
  • Log sulfuric acid and silicate totalizer readings during each pass of the run-off process.
  • Be responsible for the recycling and/ or draining of hydrogel from the base gel transfer system baghouse.
  • Perform the cleaning of the K-Unit rotating rake after the base gel transfer is completed.
  • Be responsible for performing LOTO on Wet End equipment after the completion of every batch - for mixing nozzle and cone cleaning job.
  • Perform routine inspection and functional check of all emergency showers and eye wash stations.

Specified Job Responsibilities at Dry End Section - FEM :

  • Monitor and ensure the safe operation of the fluid energy mills.
  • Ensure the safe operation of air compressors, cooling towers, and their auxiliary equipment.
  • Ensure the availability of all packaging materials, base gel, and additives before, and during the production campaign.
  • Ensure the right packaging materials and labels are prepared and used as per the production plan.
  • Ensure the information on the bag label and stenciling information are correctly prepared.
  • Collect and deliver finished product samples at the required frequency to the QC lab for analysis.
  • Ensure proper cleaning of Dry End system and unplug of caustic injection nozzle at mill body during product grade changeover.
  • Responsible for arranging additional sampling from finished product pallet if there is any process upset (50% or 100%) based on needs.

Specified Job Responsibilities at Dry End Section - ACM  :

  • Monitor and ensure safe operations of the air classifier mill operation and its auxiliaries’ equipment.
  • Supervise and ensure Packers are fully comply with the job requirement.
  • Ensure the availability of all packaging materials, base gel, and additives before, and during the production campaign.
  • Ensure the correct packaging materials and labels are prepared and used as per the production plan.
  • Ensure the plant system is flushed and cleaned before start of any production campaign.
  • Perform inspection and cleaning of sweco screen and magnetic separator upon complete of a production campaign.
  • Perform the feed rate verification for RV4040A, Citric Acid feeder and SMBS feeder based on the defined periodic schedule.
  • Ensure the plant area is protected from any birds or pests.
  • Perform bagout of Aerogel from Flash Dryer intermediate silo, S4180 as and when necessary.
  • Monitor any abnormal condition at mill injector during Process Technician perform parameters adjustment to prevent blow back of material.
  • Responsible for transferring rework products into respective FEM silo as and when required.
  • Charging additives into feeder hopper and empty out of remaining additives after completing of production campaign.
  • Monitor hydrogel feeding into ACM, clear lump at screw feeder screen and ensure no overflow of material at K-tron Feeder.
  • Responsible for performing inspection and complete Dust Filter inspection checklist, feedback to the Shift Supervisor immediately if any abnormal condition is observed.
  • Responsible to complete Powered Industrial Truck Safety Inspection checklist, Heat Seal and Pallet Press interlock checklist (every shift).

Required Qualifications

 

  • Minimum qualification: a Certificate or Diploma, preferably in a Science or Engineering discipline, or at least 2 years of experience in chemical manufacturing. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic understanding of English and proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel is an added advantage.
  • Able to work on 12 Hrs Rotating Shift.
