Job Description

 

We are hiring a Maintenance Planner & Scheduler reporting directly to the Engineering and Technical Manager at the East Chicago, IL plant site. The union site has about 50 employees and manufactures silica based products that have applications that range from metals casting to semiconductor polishing. 

 

As a Maintenance Planner & Scheduler, you will work to enhance maintenance workforce efficiency and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning, scheduling, and coordination of manpower, parts/materials, and equipment access. The planner/scheduler will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives, as well as maintaining the SAP maintenance system.

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and prepare detailed maintenance job plans in SAP & Prometheus, including initial job screening by conducting field walkdowns, analyzing job requirements, and generating detailed job plans.
  • Procure necessary parts and external services as needed and coordinate job scheduling with the operations group.
  • Maintain essential records and files to prepare accurate management reports, interpret historical equipment cost information, and participate in budgetary preparation, tracking, and analysis.
  • Develop and manage a weekly backlog of maintenance requests for operations review and facilitate weekly planning meetings between departments.
  • Analyze cost trends and make recommendations for continual improvement, as well as maintain the site's equipment Bill of Materials in SAP.
  • Serve as back-up coverage for the Maintenance and Reliability Supervisor and take off-hours and weekend maintenance call responsibilities as needed.
  • Support plant project engineers with the implementation of new projects, ensuring alignment with current maintenance processes.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to prioritize maintenance activities based on equipment criticality and production schedules.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive maintenance schedule for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks on SAP & Prometheus.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors to schedule external maintenance services as needed and monitor equipment performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and analyze equipment failure data to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in all maintenance activities and review/update maintenance procedures, standards, and best practices.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, trade school
  • 5 years + of hands-on industrial maintenance experience 
  • Maintenance planning and supervision experience in an industrial manufacturing environment 
  • Advanced working knowledge of  SAP computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Familiarity with predictive/preventative maintenance programs, work processes (MPI), and industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Prometheus experience is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and significant knowledge of mechanical and instrumentation equipment maintenance processes.
  • Experience in a union industrial manufacturing environment 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/priorities simultaneously and technical competencies in troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, and work planning/estimating.
  • Familiarity with technical standards, procurement policies, material control/expediting, estimating material requirements, project execution processes, and site/plant procedures.
  • Ability to read piping and instrumentation drawings, engineering specifications, and vendor-supplied information.
  • Generic competencies in analytical thinking, communication, customer focus, initiative, team collaboration, and work management.
  • Understanding of industry EHS requirements (State/Federal EPA compliance, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, etc.) and their applicability to maintenance/project activities.
