Job Description

  • Act as primary site resource for all aspects of GMS (lean manufacturing), including base tools, roles and responsibilities, management systems, and production/maintenance work effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute a site training strategy that identifies and addresses gaps in key skills, knowledge and abilities required to meet current and future site objectives with a focus on operator and mechanic training and supervisory development
  • Partnering with site and corporate specialists, design and manage a sustainable training system where training requirements are identified for site positions, responsibility for maintenance of standardized work instructions and training delivery is clear.
  • Support GMS sustainability through regular area audits. Identify gap areas and work with the Area Operations Manager to develop plans to close gaps.
  • Manage the effectiveness of the GMS system as a part of sustainability, identifying areas requiring improvement, and seeking opportunities for continuous improvement. Work with site leadership team to identify and implement actions that further drive maturity.
  • Work with industry groups and government agencies to enhance our workforce development through grant submissions and other financial support opportunities.  Manage the site workforce development plan and submit grant proposals.
  • Provide coaching for new employees and managers, and engage with them to clarify how their roles and work connect with GMS.
  • Give Direction to Site Training Specialist.
  • Connect with GMS Center of Excellence to leverage learnings across sites. Implement upgrades to the GMS playbook and incorporate the learnings into the site management system.
  • Act as an implementation resource for higher level elements of GMS.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing management processes in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Strong grasp of lean tools, including standard work, 5S, RCCA, 7 wastes, and Kaizen
  • Leader of change, with ability to influence and gain support from operator/craft level to site leadership
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Strong coaching and feedback skills
  • Basic understanding of adult learning styles, instructional design and learning technologies. 
  • Facilitative; can lead a project with multiple stakeholders and align their objectives in order to meet project milestones
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong business acumen

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7-10 years of operations experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated track record of using lean tools to drive continuous improvement and business results
  • Excellent PC skills, including SAP, Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering degree preferred
