Job Description

Grace is seeking a Laboratory Technician Specialist for our Evaluations Research and Services Group to support catalyst and petroleum testing for the Refining Technologies business, located in Columbia, MD. Testing in this group is essential for new product development, customer reformulation, and customer technical support. This role may rotate between several of the lab areas within the group. Typical daily activities include the safe handling of chemicals, operation of lab and pilot equipment in order to generate testing and product performance data. Other responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain FCC testing equipment, including DCR (Davison Circulating Riser), ACE Catalyst testing units, fluidization test units and Steam Deactivation units
  • Conduct analytical testing on petroleum feeds and slurries
  • Log in customer and internal samples
  • Conduct specialized catalyst and/or feedstock testing and/or product testing
  • Keep complete and accurate records of work done
  • Maintain a safe and orderly workplace and update safety documentation and procedures as necessary
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb multiple levels of stairs and be physically capable of regularly lifting/moving up to 40 pounds

Required Skills

  • Ability to work rotating shift (first shift is 7am to 3pm; second shift is 3pm to 11pm)
  • Ability to work overtime if necessary
  • Mechanical aptitude desired- ability to troubleshoot and repair lab scale equipment
  • Desire for continuous improvement of lab operations

Required Experience

  • High School diploma with 5 years relevant laboratory, manufacturing, or skilled trade experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • AA degree or BS/BA degree in technical field
