Job Description

The Technician Specialist supports research activities in the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst product line.  The Specialist is part of a dynamic team working both individually and collaboratively.

 

They are making laboratory/pilot scale preparations of FCC catalyst and additives, submitting samples for analysis and evaluation, and maintenance of pilot plant.  The Specialist works under general supervision and is responsible for recording data, reporting results, and maintaining laboratory notebook.

 

The Technician Specialist is on-site in Columbia, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the laboratory/pilot scale preparation of FCC catalysts.
  • Submit samples for analysis and evaluation. 
  • Operate and share maintenance responsibility of pilot plant equipment with other group members:
  • spray dryer,
  • mixers
  • mills
  • alumina/Peptization reactors
  • autoclaves
  • gas emission scrubber
  • washing tanks and ovens. 
  • Perform necessary housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Collect and record data.
  • Work with Word and Excel spreadsheets for data recording, data processing, and reports.
  • Operate lab scale analytical equipment.
  • Work safely with chemicals/materials and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering) OR
  • AA degree in technical field, plus 2+ years of relevant experience in academic or industrial chemical labs or pilot plant operations OR
  • High School Diploma plus 4+ years of relevant experience in academic or industrial chemical labs or pilot plant operations in lieu of education. 

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb multiple levels of stairs and be physically capable of regularly lifting/moving up to 40 pounds. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical engineering
