Job Description

We’re hiring a Technician Specialist to join our Catalyst Evaluations Research and Services team who will report to the laboratory supervisor. This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD and is a hands-on laboratory position supporting catalyst and petroleum testing for the Fluid Catalytic Cracking portion of the Refining Technologies business. Testing in this group is essential for new product development, customer reformulation, and customer technical support.

 

 

This position requires the ability to work a rotating shift schedule, 7am to 3pm or 3pm to 11pm, along with occasional overtime. You will rotate between several of the lab areas within the group. Typical daily activities include the safe handling of chemicals and operation of lab and pilot equipment in order to perform testing and prepare product performance data.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain FCC testing equipment, including DCR (Davison Circulating Riser), ACE Catalyst testing units, fluidization test units and Steam Deactivation units.
  • Conduct analytical testing on petroleum feeds and slurries.
  • Log in customer and internal samples.
  • Conduct specialized catalyst and/or feedstock testing and/or product testing (i.e. Gas Chromatography analysis, elemental analysis, etc.).
  • Keep complete and accurate records of work done.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly workplace and update safety documentation and procedures as necessary.

Physical Requirements

Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

Required Qualifications

  • AA Degree in a technical discipline, or H.S. diploma with 2-4 years relevant laboratory, manufacturing, or skilled trade experience.
  • Ability to work rotating shift (first shift is 7am to 3pm; second shift is 3pm to 11pm) and overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment, which on includes benchwork and platform-level up to 10 ft in height. In addition, working in a pilot plant environment.
  • Knowledge using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Mechanical aptitude

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing lab scale equipment.
  • Desire for continuous improvement of lab operations.
