Job Description
We're hiring a Technician Specialist to work at our Pilot Plant, located at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD. This position requires working site Monday - Friday.
The primary function of this position is to support research and development activities in the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst product line. The typical daily activities of the employee will include preparing laboratory/pilot scale FCC catalyst and additives and submitting samples for analysis and evaluation. Employee will work under general supervision and be responsible for recording and reporting results.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb multiple levels of stairs and be physically capable of regularly lifting/moving up to 40 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Follow all Environmental Health & Safety requirements and do all required safety training. Work safely with chemicals/materials and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for the job.
- Perform the laboratory/pilot scale preparation of FCC catalysts. Submit samples for analysis and evaluation.
- Operate and share maintenance of pilot plant equipment with other group members. Equipment includes spray dryer, mixers, mills, gas emission scrubber, washing tanks and ovens.
- Perform the necessary housekeeping maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Collect and record data. Work with Word and Excel spreadsheets for data recording, data processing and reports.
Physical Requirements
Required Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Science or two years of college with coursework in chemistry, engineering, and math. Relevant work history and experience will be considered in lieu of education.
- One- or two-years’ experience beyond college with overall good mechanical aptitude and experience in chemical lab operations desired.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in making FCC catalysts and handling mineral acids is a plus.
