Job Description
Technician Specialist (Rotating Shift)
Grace is seeking a Technician Specialist to join our Catalyst Evaluations Research and Services team!
The Technician Specialist is hands-on in the laboratory supporting catalyst and petroleum testing for Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC); part of Refining Technologies. The Technician works on essential testing for new product development, customer reformulation, and customer technical support. They may rotate between several lab areas.
The Technician’s daily activities include safe handling of chemicals, operation of lab and pilot equipment, and product performance data.
This role is on-site in Columbia, MD and reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.
Rotating shift:
- 1st shift - 7am to 3pm
- 2nd shift - 3pm to 11pm*
*Request for only 2nd shift will be considered
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain FCC testing equipment, including DCR (Davison Circulating Riser), ACE (Advanced Cracking Evaluations) Catalyst testing, fluidization test, and Steam Deactivation units
- Conduct analytical testing on petroleum feeds and slurries
- Log in customer and internal samples
- Conduct specialized catalyst and/or feedstock testing and/or product testing (i.e. Gas Chromatography analysis, elemental analysis, etc.)
- Keep complete and accurate records of work done
- Maintain a safe and orderly workplace and update safety documentation and procedures
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma with 7+ years relevant experience in laboratory, manufacturing, or skilled trade OR
- Associate's degree with 5+ years in a technical field, OR
- Bachelor's degree
- Ability to work rotating shift and limited overtime
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs and ladders.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to, protective eyewear, steel-toed shoes, and lab coat.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology or Math
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical items or equipment
- Experience implementing improvements in lab operations
