Job Description

We're hiring a Technical Accounting Manager who will report to the Director, Global Accounting. You will be responsible for research, application, and documentation of various technical accounting matters under U.S. GAAP and supporting Corporate financial reporting in these areas and maintain overall accounting policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include: 

 

  • Independently research complex accounting issues; form opinions as to application; document in written memos and review with Director of Accounting, Controller, and Business Finance Leaders. 
  • Oversee all Grace hedge accounting programs from an accounting and reporting perspective and use knowledge of ASC 815.  Work with Grace Treasury staff involved with execution of derivative financial instruments to align on accounting treatment of hedge programs.  Manage arrangement with 3rd party hedge accounting service provider. Review all financial instrument and fair value disclosures in 10-K/10-Q.
  • Review new, unique customer arrangements and apply ASC 606 revenue recognition 5-step methodology to document customer contract accounting.  Assess and review revenue recognition disclosures and update as necessary.
  • Provide consultation with business and corporate accounting managers in areas that they oversee when complex arrangements arise in areas of lease accounting, inventory accounting, PP&E capitalization questions, benefit plan accounting, etc.
  • As new business opportunities arise, meet with business operations and finance leaders to understand proposed arrangements and the accounting impact, particularly regarding consolidation assessment under ASC 810 and functional currency determination.  Prepare consolidation analysis under ASC 810 and document consolidation conclusions
  • Understand and oversee foreign currency accounting impacts, and work with international controllers to ensure transactions are recorded correctly; obtain understanding of how Grace’s financial systems are setup to handle transactional and translational aspects.
  • Oversee annual accounting and reporting areas such as goodwill and intangibles impairment analysis, and assess changes in business for proper segment reporting
  • Lead Grace financial policy committee and own finance policy and procedures.  Periodically conduct meetings with committee to discuss potential new policies or revisions.
  • Interact with internal/external auditors and provide support for their requests
  • Assist Finance Compliance Manager with internal control evaluation and implementation and policy analysis and documentation

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and demonstrated ability to apply rules
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, along with strong business acumen and time management

Required Experience

  • B.S. degree in Accounting or related plus 6+ years relevant experience in public accounting and/or large multinational manufacturing company with demonstrated track record of progressing in finance/accounting
  • Experience with public company reporting to SEC
  • SAP financial systems experience including BPC/BW/Data Analytics

Preferred Qualifications
