Job Description

W.R. Grace is continuing to hire Game Changers to join our Integrated Supply Chain organization as a Supplier Quality Engineer.  What’s a Game Changer you ask…it’s someone to challenge the status quo, someone that has strong analytical skills that can use information and data to make informed business decisions, and someone that strives for excellence.

 

The Supplier Quality Engineer will report to the Global Supplier Quality Leader and be responsible for the successful execution of the Global Supplier Quality program and contribute to its continuous improvement.  The position will monitor the suppliers’ performance and will develop and implement plans to mitigate risks. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to understand supplier quality requirements and issues and will use them to identify priorities and drive solutions. In addition, you will interface with suppliers to communicate Grace’s quality requirements, assess their performance, drive improvements and address issues. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Develop and execute supplier qualification process, action plans, audits, performance monitoring, and assisting key suppliers towards improving their standards of excellence.
  • Monitor and report suppliers’ performance in defined categories. Determine course of action to improve low-performing suppliers.
  • Support development of a comprehensive supplier scorecard and actively manage performance of critical suppliers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and timeliness of suppliers’ response to incidents, and act to improve them.
  • Schedule and participate in supplier audits globally, and plan resource to execute them; Assess suppliers’ ability to meet Grace’s requirements, and follow up on audit findings.
  • Facilitate the supplier segmentation process based on risk and criticality to the businesses they serve.
  • Improve supplier capability through training and education.
  • Evaluate internal processes for improvements, and implement special programs and applications for enhancements.
  • Continually improve the quality of data related to the suppliers’ performance.
  • Review and update supplier management procedures for improvements.
  • Establish periodic reviews of critical raw material specification with the technical organization, and ensure that they reflect current requirements.
  • Maintain suppliers’ adherence to general quality provisions of the company.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to include international.

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of Six Sigma and application to supplier quality programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage and collaborate with internal resources and external suppliers on a global basis.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects proficiently
  • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Self-motivated and result-oriented

Required Experience

  • B.S. in Engineering, or B.A. in Science or related field
  • 5 years industrial technical experience in operations roles or quality function
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage quality improvement initiatives from identification to sustainable implementation
  • Experienced in leading projects to completion
  • Demonstrated ability to network effectively and collaborate with others

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Audit experience and ISO 9001 knowledge
  • Six Sigma training and experience
  • Proficient in SAP Ariba
