Job Description
We are hiring for a Strategic Marketing Manager, FCC Catalysts to join our Performance Catalyst Solutions Marketing team. This role reports to the Director, FCC Strategic Marketing and will be located at either our Columbia, MD or Houston, TX, locations. The Strategic Marketing Manager will be responsible for defining and executing the strategy for one of FCC's three major market segments. This role has external global product portfolio ownership and is responsible for driving segment profitability, optimizing the segment product portfolio, R&D flight plan, and leading PrISM product development programs.
Responsibilities (1 of 2)
- Lead segment, new product, and portfolio technology communications with key external stakeholders, with a strong focus on relevant value chains, industry insights, and Grace’s differentiated customer value proposition.
- Working closely with R&D, Process Technology, Business Management, and the Global Customer Technology organization, lead and manage new product development programs for his/her segment through the PrISM stage-gate process. Strategic Marketing is the primary PrISM project management function within Performance Catalyst Solutions (PCS).
- Provide ideation guidance to R&D to prioritize segment new product development efforts. Develop project business case justification prior to scale up and test marketing. Create commercialization and launch plans for new products while actively managing the size of the portfolio including rationalization of legacy products.
- Interface with Business Management to ensure customer expectations are routinely met, and champion troubleshooting efforts related to product quality for the segment.
- Influence the development of the 5-year Long Range Plan, annual Business Review, annual Portfolio Review, and bi-annual Segment Communication meetings for the business. Ensure segment needs are aligned with the strategy, drive research ideation focus, and track progress.
Responsibilities (2 of 2)
- Develop & implement intellectual property strategy for the segment in conjunction with legal and R&D.
- Support cost reduction programs to optimize material profitability, working closely with Business Management, ISC, Process Technology, and R&D.
- Champion strategic growth capital projects and business justifications associated with segment strategy.
- Coordinate and lead training and development needs for segment related topics across the global organization (e.g. SMART calls, training, onboarding)
- Devise pricing strategies for the segment for use by the global commercial teams, consistent with the value proposition and geared to drive EBITDA and profitability.
- Deliver AOP financial targets together with the commercial team and parallel functions.
- Collect, analyze, and distill market information to develop original insights that inform and guide segment strategy positions.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. Degree in Engineering, Business, or related technical field
- 12+ years of experience in the refining, chemical manufacturing, or catalysis industry
- Strong communication style and presence to convey strategic vision, insights, and segment positions, both internally and externally.
- Good interpersonal skills in leading and managing multi-functional teams comprising members from different culture/ethnic backgrounds.
- Attention to detail and experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Understanding of marketing fundamentals and business acumen on how to optimize profitability internally and create value externally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced technical degree or MBA.
- Experience supporting refinery industry preferred, with FCC value chain familiarity.
