Job Description

Grace is hiring a highly collaborative Sr. R&D Scientist to work at our Columbia, MD headquarters location. As a scientist at Grace, you will be part of a research and development team and perform the following activities:



  • Prioritizes corporate, site, workgroup and personal safety
  • Leads new product development in the Materials Technologies business, with a basis on inorganic oxides such as amorphous silica and applications thereof, particularly in the Pharmaceutical market space;
  • Performs basic theoretical and experimental scientific and technological investigations and manages day-to-day activities in the laboratory;
  • Identifies inventive aspects of new technology and works with Grace legal to capture and protect intellectual property;
  • Leverages global capabilities and expertise to advance projects;
  • Works with Sales and Marketing to build relationships with customers to identify needs and develop next generation products and formulations;
  • Leads the planning and prioritization of projects, programs, and initiatives ensure that business goals are met and participates in the decision-making process to establish and advance R/D projects;
  • Trains, coaches and develops subordinates, responsible for their career development;
  • Communicates up and down and laterally in the organization;
  • Represents Grace's interest in attending professional society meetings and makes contributions per his/her area of expertise

Required Experience

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or Material Science
  • 2+ years of relevant industrial or post-doctoral experience
