Job Description
Reporting to the VP, Communications and Government Affairs, the Senior Manager, Marketing Communications for Materials Technologies (MT) will be part of the Corporate Communications team and be responsible for driving and implementing the holistic communications strategy for an important and growing business unit within WR Grace.
Responsibilities include ensuring that communications strategy and tactics raise visibility and strengthen the reputation of MT and Grace among all its stakeholders, including employees, customers and others. This will require the creation and delivery of best-in-class communications, in line with MT and Grace’s competitor and peer set.
As a communications leader working within a matrixed environment, the senior manager is also responsible for collaborating with the corporate communications team and cross-functionally with the MT business, commercial, and technical subject matter experts to plan and execute integrated communications in line with the global communications and marketing strategies.
Responsibilities
- Strategy: Work with the VP, communications to design, lead and implement creative and effective holistic integrated communications plans for the MT business that strengthen MT and Grace’s reputation with all stakeholders; develop strategic communications recommendations, including potential KPIs, based on data and analytics to optimize communications plans
- Marketing support: work closely with MT Marketing to ensure all communications plans are aimed at increasing brand awareness and driving customer engagement, marketing and sales qualified lead generation; manage and direct the MT communications and copywriting activities of internal resources and external agency vendors; follow-up with key stakeholders on campaign performance
- Executive communications: support internal communications for business president, including managing all town halls and other internal events as well as external speaking engagements and efforts to raise BU President’s profile
- Internal communications: help drive employee engagement within MT and Grace overall; increase understanding, engagement, and support of MT campaign efforts as well as key corporate initiatives
- Media relations: Elevate the Grace brand and MT business with customers and others through effective trade and other targeted media relations,
- Counsel: act as a strategic communications advisor to internal clients to advise on appropriate channels and tactics based on business strategy, return-on-investment performance, and goals with pre-defined KPIs
- External landscape: Maintain a rigorous curiosity about MT’s external business environment and consider how it can be leveraged for positive effects and engagement
Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, business or related field
- 12+ years’ experience in communications, corporate communications, or related field
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability and skills
- Experience and expertise in B2B communications including executing across traditional and digital channels
- Experience in trade and other targeted media relations
- Ability to effectively and smoothly navigate a matrixed environment and balance multiple goals and objectives, including meeting deadlines and key milestones
- Excellence in written and verbal communications, including the ability to write across both traditional and digital channels; engaging copywriting, composition, grammar, and tone are all crucial components of this
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically while also capable of executing multi-faceted programs in a well-organized manner with the utmost attention to detail
- Ability to critically reason and apply creativity to projects to deliver best-in-class strategy and execution on often-limited budgets
- Strong project management capabilities including the ability to multi-task and deliver against competing deadlines
- Ability to influence peers and senior leaders within an organization
- Ability to synthesize data to derive key insights and recommendations to optimize communications programs to effectively achieve commercial strategy and goals
- Demonstrated team player and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with trade and local reporters in a traditional earned media discipline
- Deep understanding of market activation landscape including new and emerging trends or tools
- Experience with various marketing technology platforms including Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Target, or other marketing communications related technology
