Job Description
The Sr. Director, Global Process Safety and EHS leads change through effective communication and collaboration providing clear and consistent messages, standards and programs encouraging a culture of health, safety and environmental awareness for Grace’s Operations globally. The position reports to the Senior Vice President, Environmental, Health, Safety, Security & Quality. It is anticipated this position will have direct reports including Global Process Safety Director, Health and Safety Sr Manager, and Environmental Manager.
Responsibilities
- Advances relationships with leadership, management, and employees to ensure Process Safety and EHS policies and procedures are being understood, applied and followed. Working with leadership, senior management, share incident and best practices across the organization.
- Advise and support senior leadership team on all Process Safety and EHS programs and activities, monitoring, communicating, escalating leading and lagging indicator performance and progress.
- Collaborate closely with Global Operations organization and leadership to develop and assist Sr. Director EHS Global Operations in driving EHSSQ initiatives.
- Champion global Process Safety and EHS initiatives, focusing on preventive actions, that identify and communicate organizational risk and prioritization.
- Monitor and ensure compliance to local, state/providence, federal and foreign Process Safety EHS regulations globally.
- Assist Director of Operational Risk and EHS Assurance in audits that are conducted of facilities and processes to assess and identify process safety, environmental, health and safety risks.
- Reviews and collaborates on capital project activities related to Process Safety and EHS investments and improvements company wide.
- Provide oversight and ensures the reporting of relevant and impactful Process Safety and EHS key performance indicators and overall performance metrics.
- Assist Director of Operational Risk and EHS Assurance to ensure regular risk assessments are conducted regularly at manufacturing sites and top risks are managed and reported / escalated.
- Process owner for global process safety and EHS management systems.
- Leads and provides coaching to the process safety and EHS community. Establishes and monitors goals, objectives and measurements which enable the organization towards industry leading safety performance.
- Develops strategies including business, production and/or organizational priorities that establish health and safety enterprise work strategy to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective performance that meets customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or another equivalent technical field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience at an industrial plant site working in operations leadership.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience leading process safety initiatives or operations at a PSM regulated industrial site.
- A minimum of 15-20 years’ experience in industrial related work experience operations and EHS.10+ years of leadership experience in operations and EHS positions, with proven success at developing people and teams.
- Experience working with Global Teams
- Comprehensive knowledge of EHS programs, policies, procedures and business plans.
- Demonstrated experience building and executing Process Safety and EHS strategy, including program development and systems implementation with a focus on cultural enhancement and capability building.
- Subject Matter Expertise in EHS systems and culture, Process Safety OHS systems and compliance strategies, and relevant regulations, as well as international standards.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to execute large-scale initiatives in a complex, matrixed environment.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct data analysis, draw relevant conclusions develop recommendations and drive changes.
- Superior oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to design and deliver reports.
- Strong collaboration and influence skills
- Superior facilitation and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel 50%+, including some global travel.
- Ability to relocate to Columbia, MD or Houston, TX, or travel to work in office ~3 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Safety professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
