We’re hiring a Senior Technician Specialist who will participate in R&D-related activities and support Scientists and other team members within our RANEY® and DAVICAT® divisions of our Specialty Catalyst business. As a technician at Grace, you will be part of a research and development team and perform the following activities listed below.



This position is based at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD and is a day shift schedule. Occasional overtime may be necessary, expected to be less than 5% of the time. 


  • Foster a safety-centric culture, fully engaging in all aspects of corporate and workgroup-specific safety initiatives.
  • Under the direction of one or more R&D scientists, execute laboratory. experiments including raw materials processing and catalyst synthesis.
  • Operate lab-scale testing equipment to characterize catalysts.
  • Perform laboratory housekeeping, inventory, and procurement duties.
  • Package and help coordinate sample shipment, including to customers.
  • Compile, document, and manage data from experiments, generating concise and accurate data packages.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or B.S. in a technical discipline and minimum of 5 yrs experience in a laboratory setting, or H.S. diploma and 10 years of experience working in a chemical laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated industry or academic laboratory experience.
  • Experience/comfort working with potentially hazardous chemical substances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of chemistry/engineering/mathematical principles.
  • Strong mechanical abilities with lab equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience with using computer software for data collection and entry.
  • Experience with industrial safety practices.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
