Job Description

We're hiring a Senior Planning Engineer for our Corporate Capital Projects Team, who will report to the Senior Project Engineering Manager. As a Senior Planning Engineer, you'll be responsible for the overall evaluation and control of the assigned project schedules, performs schedule development, maintenance and monitoring of the planning/scheduling activities with minimal or no supervisory oversight. You will be involved with managing various schedules to ensure work is completed as scheduled and to identify schedule-associated trends and/or risks for management review and action. In addition, you will be supporting the development of the monthly reports and to perform schedule assessments as requested.

 

This successful candidate can work from our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD with a hybrid work schedule; relocation assistance will be offered. A second option is work from home which must be in the Houston area. Both locations require the ability to travel up to 30%.

 

Additional responsibilities:


 

  • Takes a lead in preparing schedule data throughout the Project life cycle as requested.
  • Verifies that the correct scope of work is reflected on assigned schedules.
  • Integrates schedule requirements and constraints to establish logical work sequences.
  • Reviews and assesses the work sequences within the total project plan.
  • Establishes and implements methods for determining activity durations within each stage of the project taking into consideration overall scope and complexity.
  • Reviews schedule data, identifies and acquires information needed to complete working logic to interface between assigned resources and/or projects.
  • Develops specific project codes of accounts and work breakdown structures (WBS) and recommends appropriate modifications and revisions for new work items assigned.
  • Determines critical-path activities for project and identifies requirements necessary for mitigation of any possible delays. 
  • Identifies, analyzes and monitors schedule deviations for subcontractor submittals and recommends corrective action/work-around solutions for project considerations.
  • Schedules/attends Project team meetings at regular intervals to ensure that overdue and/or upcoming activities are clear and recognized by the Project team.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate under the direction of the Sr. Project Engineering Manager.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to perform in a technical engineering planning role
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and have a thorough understanding of industry practices and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and proactive 
  • Proficient using Primavera Enterprise Systems (P6)

Required Experience

  • B.S. degree, in lieu of degree will consider equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years capital project planning and scheduling experience in chemical, petro-chemical/industrial environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a matrix environment, along with global experience
