Job Description

The Senior Global Process Safety Engineer will assist in the tactical execution of the Process Safety program and compliance obligations at Grace.  The Senior Global Process Safety Engineer will provide hands-on support to all Grace facilities worldwide by leading risk assessments, performing engineering calculations, and collaborating with sites to implement regulatory requirements, Grace internal standards, and Best Practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead PHA and LOPA support to all Grace facilities by facilitating Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) per Grace internal standards and industry best practices.  Recommend appropriate engineering controls and layers of protection for mitigation of hazardous events. 
  • Lead or facilitate the development of Reactive Hazards Screening reports and data analysis for Grace sites, under the direction of the Corporate Reactive Hazards Leader.
  • Lead and assist sites in the implementation and execution of all Process Safety program elements, including, for example, Management of Change and Pre-Startup Safety Review requirements. 
  • Lead and assist in the interpretation and application of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) codes and standards, including but not limited to API, ASME, ANSIS, ISA, IEC, NFPA, ATXE and others.
  • Perform engineering calculations and modeling related to pressure relief system design, consequence analysis, safety instrumented system design, and inherently safer design & safeguard evaluation.
  • Lead and assist site and corporate EHS staff in reporting and analysis of Process Safety Events per API 754 and Grace internal requirements.  Use data from Process Safety metrics to identify trends, and champion improvements in Process Safety practices and culture.
  • Lead or serve as an internal auditor for PSM/RMP audits and other Process Safety audits & assessments at Grace facilities.
  • Lead and participate in the development and delivery of Process Safety training for company employees.
  • Lead and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Incident Investigations per Grace internal standards and industry best practices.
  • Exhibit courageous leadership and take immediate action to call attention to potentially high-risk conditions to prevent potential catastrophic Process Safety incidents.
  • Stay current on Process Safety practices and changes to regulations by continuing education and participation in industry groups including CCPS, American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) or American Chemistry Council (ACC) Regional Process Safety Networks, and others.
  • Lead and actively contribute to internal subject matter core teams, practice sharing, and continuous learning through the Grace Process Safety Network, and assist with the development and execution of the annual Symposium.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15+ years process safety industry experience
  • Background in operations, process design, mechanical integrity, and/or Process Safety.
  • Familiar with application of PHA methods such as HAZOP and What-If/Checklist, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Management of Change, Root Cause Analysis, Pressure Relief System Design, and/or Safety Instrumented Systems. 
  • Function effectively within a team environment (leading and participating) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with Grace facilities and other corporate functions by demonstrating servant leadership.
  • High level of personal motivation, with a drive for ownership and accountability in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Commitment to the highest level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels in the organization.
  • Approximately 30-40% travel required, including international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer license or Engineer-In-Training designation.
  • Advanced degree.
