Job Description

 

We are hiring a Senior Digital Manufacturing Engineer located at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD and reporting directly to the Senior Digital Manufacturing Manager.

 

The Sr. Digital Manufacturing Engineer is part of the Digital Manufacturing team and will be responsible for defining and implementing digital transformation technology to improve manufacturing performance globally. This role will conduct exploratory sessions to identify areas for improved manufacturing performance – lower cost or higher volumes through the use of digital technologies. The position will then proceed to partner with the plant to execute projects that have the biggest impact not only to the site but are also scalable across the global manufacturing network. The individual will serve as a technology leader within Grace to identify and implement Industry 4.0 innovations that deliver tangible financial benefits to Grace manufacturing. This person will work closely with the Digital Operations Center in India to ensure the tools and technology can also be supported through that team's past implementation. Domestic and international travel may be required depending on projects. 
 

Responsibilities

 

  • Understand the status of the factory, identify digital opportunities, create vision for the digital future of the factory together with all stakeholders.
  • Understands the core manufacturing processes at the sites and how the digital technologies and process technologies interrelate. Builds credibility with the sites through in-depth process technology. 
  • Apply technical and organizational skills to drive plant level continuous improvement programs using digital technologies
  • Develop and implement data driven business models that require IoT components to improve factory KPIs. 
  • Design the connectivity concept for core assets that are required for the value creation (i.e., choose correct sensor, edge device, etc.).
  • Play an active role in leading validation and verification processes and developing testing programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring robust project plans are developed and executed on with focus around time, scope, and budget. 
  • Responsible for communicating and partnering across key counterparts and stakeholders within the manufacturing site, regional leadership, IT, and the Manufacturing Center of Excellence.
  • Partners with the industry and vendor experts to develop and implement a Plant specific digital technology plan that delivers year over year cost reduction while enabling increased volume and meeting plant level EH&S improvement goals.
  • Serves as a global resource and champion of Industry 4.0 initiatives across the company.

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering - Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing plant environment
  • Ability to travel globally 25% to sites consistently with intermittent and limited periods of 50% travel

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience upgrading and automating manufacturing processes, and implementing new technologies, digitation, and data analysis
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including  IT and OT, representing the combined state for manufacturing excellence
  • Ability to quickly learn details of Grace’s chemical processes and identify the impact of automation improvements on the cost, quality, and safety of the manufacturing operation
  • Strong project management experience with proven ability to manage complex projects across many facilities and functions
