Job Description

As an R&D Engineer, you will be part of the R&D group supporting new technology introduction, primarily to the UNIPOL® PP Process based in Columbia, MD. You will work closely with the Product R&D group and Licensing Manufacturing Technology Management personnel in the support of Licensing activities. The following outlines your responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee the daily operation of PP Pilot Plant Reactors, providing input and support through a contract engineer at Dow’s South Charleston Pilot Plant.
  • Design pilot plant runs and implement modifications needed to enable targeted research programs to be completed successfully.
  • Identify and drive new research areas and validate via technical and economic criteria.
  • Prepare for and lead pilot plant campaigns for catalyst, process and product development including preliminary reviews, data interpretation, process modeling and final reporting (technical reports and technology manual for new technologies).
  • Support client teams as Process subject matter expert.
  • Plan and generate Run Plan Documents for commercial scale up of technology at clients. 
  • Support or lead commercial scale up trials at client sites and report back results.

Required Skills

  • BS or higher degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 7-10 years related technical experience (R&D, Technology or Manufacturing)

Required Experience

  • BS or higher degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 7-10 years related technical experience (R&D, Technology or Manufacturing).
  • MS, and/or PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pilot plant operations experience
  • Strong interest in technology and in applying scientific knowledge and experience to develop useful and valuable technology.
  • Ability to travel, to include international, typically 3 to 5 times per year for commercial trials which typically last a week.
  • Initiative: Ability to independently decide technical study approach and implement with others
    Innovation and creative problem solving
  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills in team settings and with clients. Effective communication to include the ability to work directly with external clients and present finding to them.
  • Value Creation: Ability to assess key needs for technology to successfully deliver value to the Polypropylene business area. Basic understanding of Valuation methods is highly preferred.
