Job Description

 

Grace is seeking a R&D Scientist to join our Research and Development team to support single-site polyolefin catalyst design. This role reports to the Director of R&D and is located in Columbia, MD.  Specifically, the role’s primary function is to drive expansion of the ActivCat® product line through development and commercialization of advanced products. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Work hands-on in the lab with chemists and technicians in the development of advanced single-site catalysts, with application of modern innovations in silica supports and activation technologies 
  • Utilize a stage-gate process, aligning closely with Marketing and Process Technology for milestones and deliverables
  • Ideate to expand the company's technical growth options
  • Identify inventive aspects of new technology development, and work with Grace Legal to capture and protect such intellectual property
  • Document, summarize, and communicate results and conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences

Required Qualifications

 

  • Ph.D. Degree in Chemistry
  • 1-5 years of experience with development of polyolefin catalyst systems
  • Expertise in organometallic synthesis
  • Proficiency with support technology for single-site catalysis
  • Expertise in common analysis techniques for catalyst characterization
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Safety-first mindset and ability to lead safety related improvement projects
  • Strong attention to detail and effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Applications knowledge for both PE and PP metallocene-derived polymers
  • Market knowledge of current and emerging polyolefin trends
  • Experience with design of sustainable products
