Job Description

Grace is seeking a Sustainability Program Manager to join our Corporate Sustainability team!  This role reports to the Director, Sustainability, and is located in Columbia, MD.

This person will play a key role in advancing Sustainability at Grace.  In addition to supporting and advancing existing reporting systems and work processes, this person will act as an internal reference for sustainability frameworks & best practices, and will drive & support improvements both in corporate, operations, and business unit initiatives.  This person will also hold responsibility for presenting Grace’s sustainability positions to key stakeholders, and for coordinating responses to inquiries around Grace’s sustainability programs.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the infrastructure around Grace’s Corporate Sustainability reporting systems, seeking full automation and removing work from plants, EH&S teams, etc.
    • Manage internal project to move from manual, spreadsheet information collection to one which leverages the power of automated systems.
    • Learn Grace’s QA/QC and Calculation procedure/processes and audit requirements, and advise the Grace IT team on requirements necessary to implement them in an automated environment. 
    • Evaluate third party software solutions for suitability, and work with Grace’s Sustainability stakeholders to recommend any additional systems or modules that would improve our environment.  Create cost/benefit justifications.
  • Upgrade Grace’s Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Reporting System to an enterprise solution
    • Advance the number of products or product families which we can report
    • Set the standards for how Grace will handle PCF responses.  Create a roadmap of advancement over time. Understand evolving customer needs and balance the needs of advanced customers and ones who have less complex requirements.
  • ​​​​​​​Act as a Sustainability voice for Grace in various one-time events as needed (e.g. customer meetings, audits, forums, etc.)  Create & deliver appropriate content for these events.
  • Engage with Internal Stakeholders to provide updates on systems evolution, customer inquiries, and stay abreast of customer requirements with respect to sustainability.
  • Participate & liase with Responsible Sourcing, especially with respect to evaluation of scope 2 or 3 impacts, goal setting, etc.
  • Partner with Director of Sustainability to define Grace’s sustainability initiatives.  Participate in new initiatives as assigned, up to / including leadership of internal teams associated with new initiatives.
  • Lead the team tasked with completing Grace’s sustainability reports, customer questionnaires, and other disclosures.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • BS in Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or similar field.
  • Experience in the application of third party frameworks & reporting systems (GHG protocol, CDP, GRI, ISO 14000 series, other LCA frameworks).   
  • Primary work hours – 8 AM – 5 PM Eastern, with some flexibility required to accommodate global stakeholders. 
  • Ability to independently manage and lead key project workstreams end-to-end.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and ability to learn and quickly understand new concepts outside area of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to build compliant corporate systems, and ability to learn new standards and guide their implementations.
  • Demonstrated experience in product Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
  • Experience driving completion of verified LCAs according to standards. 
  • Enterprise system experience with continuous improvement toward fully certified systems.
  • Advanced degree.
