Job Description

W.R. Grace is seeking a Process Technology Engineer to support and enhance our technical leadership for the Specialty Catalysts business. This person will report to the Senior Engineer of R&D, located out of our Columbia, MD, headquarters. This position is responsible for:

  • Developing new catalysts through participation in R&D team efforts.
  • Coordinating scale up and validation of new catalysts; facilitate technology transfer from lab/pilot plant to commercial units.
  • Providing manufacturing support for commercial catalysts.
  • Participating in the introduction of new R&D projects and in their advancement through the product development introduction process.
  • Providing recommendations for specifications that balance product performance and plant manufacturing capability for that product.
  • Communicating effectively to sales/marketing, research/development, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Conducting catalyst and polymer testing and reporting results to internal and external customers.

Required Skills

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams.
  • Strong data analysis and research skills.
  • Strong bias for action with a natural curiosity and ability to learn.
  • Ability to work face-to-face with customers.
  • Ability to drive projects to completion, on budget and on time.
  • Administrative skills (handling of a large number of simultaneous assignments and meeting deadlines).

Required Experience

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 1 years' experience in a manufacturing plant or with organometallic compounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt
  • Masters or PhD in Chemical Engineering
  • Track record of successful process commercialization
