Job Description

Grace is seeking a Process Design Engineer to join our Specialty Catalyst, Licensing team! This role reports to the Engineering Team Leader located at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, USA. This is a hybrid schedule including Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in-office and Tuesdays and Fridays flexible days to be in-office OR remote. There will be 10% domestic and international travel. 

The Specialty Catalyst (SC) business is a growth business of the W.R. GRACE Catalyst Technology division. The SC business offers highly specialized catalyst technology for polyolefins production and also offers the UNIPOL® polypropylene (PP) process technology. The SC business has licensed about 70 world class UNIPOL® PP plants around the world representing over 15 % of the total PP market. The Process Design Engineer will be involved in multiple activities as part of the Licensing Engineering group. They include Process Design Package development for new licenses, engineering studies for existing licenses, 3D model reviews, engineering reviews, construction reviews, plant commissioning and startup, and services into the company overall.   

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist in the development of Process Design Packages (PDP) for new licenses.
    • Lead/assist a team of process engineers in PDP development
    • Develop and perform process simulation
    • Develop process flow diagrams and heat and material balances
    • Perform process equipment sizing calculations
    • Develop and specify process control instrumentation data sheets
    • Develop process control logic diagrams
    • Develop piping and instrument diagrams
    • Provide technical support and input to assigned equipment or process area
  • Participate in engineering and construction reviews, plant commissioning and startup, and plant trials.
    • Identify deviations to process design and/or operation requirements and create punch-list items of needed corrections
    • Perform process control loop and logic checks
  • Provide technical services to customers.
     

Required Qualifications

  • BS engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering) 
  • 3+ years of experience as process and/or operation engineer
  • Experience in polyolefin industry, with preference in polypropylene

Preferred Qualifications

  • Process engineering design experience
  • Ability to complete projects with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Project and cost control experience
  • Problem solving; analytical thinking
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with persons of various occupational backgrounds, including operations, maintenance, engineering, marketing, and management.
