Job Description

Grace is seeking a Maintenance Technician for our R&D Pilot Plant team! This role will report to the Maintenance Supervisor at the Columbia, MD location. The Maintenance Technician will routinely troubleshoot/repair industrial equipment, complete preventative maintenance, and seek opportunities for process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible and held accountable for compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, training, policies, and procedures. Adhere to principles and policies for the Grace 5S program.
  • Responsible for understanding how to troubleshoot and repair a variety of equipment including but not limited to mechanical seals, vacuum pumps, vacuum dryers, reactors, pressure vessels, carbon and stainless-steel piping and tubing, sight glasses, flow meters, ball valves. 
  • Able to coordinate with vendors and contractors, including completion of the required safe work authorizations and documentation.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling and collaborate with coworkers to foster a safe, engaged, and productive environment. 
  • Required to stand, walk, sit, and climb or balance.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. 
  • Work safely adjacent to and in some cases with hazardous chemicals and various organic and air sensitive materials.
  • Assist in development of technically oriented materials and documents. Must be versed in technical writing, and will be expected to draft plant data sheets, environmental or incident reports, inventory sheets, process operating instructions, Job Safety Analysis forms, waste logs, forklift inspection sheets, etc. Employee will abide by corporate and site Critical Life Safety policies, perform CLS analysis and draft required documentation. 

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial environment
  • High mechanical aptitude with pronounced understanding of mechanical concepts.
  • Able and willing to become a certified forklift driver.
  • Display excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Be willing and able to be screened and pass a Department of Homeland Security background check.
  • Basic PC skills are essential, including the ability to navigate and utilize various software systems. 
  • An independent worker, with good organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to work with mechanical seals, vacuum pumps, vacuum dryers, reactors, pressure vessels, carbon and stainless-steel piping and tubing, sight glasses, flow meters, ball valves.
  • Experience with closed loop heating and chilling units
  • Experience with elements of equipment and process safety including rupture disks, pressure relief valves, check valves and interlocks
