Job Description

 

Grace is building up the bench strength of its central engineering group by expanding the coverage for other engineering disciplines and is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer. They report directly to the Engineering Director and may be located out of our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD, our Houston, TX, hub, or our Baton Rouge, LA plant site.

 

This Engineer is a subject matter expert (SME) who, working with little or no supervision, can apply advanced scientific and engineering knowledge and ingenuity to complete complex assignments related to the Mechanical Engineering discipline. This position requires the ability travel up to 50% including international. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Identifies, plans, and conducts projects of various sizes/complexities within engineering specialty requiring custom, risk-managed execution plans, investigations, and/or equipment. Analyzing project specifications, developing work schedules, and delegating tasks to different teams.
  • Conducts data sourcing and analysis for the development of benchmarks internally and externally. 
  • Conceptualizes complete solutions. Creates or coordinates the design solutions for novel or complex problems; integrates regulatory and operational needs; assesses cost benefit.
  • Structures studies and integrate cross-disciplinary and cross-functional issues to arrive at optimal course of action.
  • Represents the organization as a technical contact on contracts and projects.
  • Interacts with both senior management and external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Engineering policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Identified as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the discipline and provides training.
  • Participates in internal, cross-divisional teams to develop and align procedures and standards. 
  • Resolves problems and crisis situations requiring fast, astute decisions with rapid implementation by utilizing technical training and experience. 

Required Qualifications

 

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of engineering experience, with at least a portion of that experience in the chemical industry.
  • Knowledge of PSM, specifically mechanical integrity standards
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Knowledge, application and specification of piping materials and good design practices for sizing all piping systems.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • M.S. degree in engineering and/or PE license
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project,
  • 5+ years of experience using SAP systems
