Job Description

The Competitive Intelligence Manager is the point person for identifying and assessing the latest developments for the Specialty Catalyst business competitor and key customer landscape as well as any emerging trends from these and other critical value chain players. This role ensures the business has a clear perspective of how our major competitors and key customers are responding to current market conditions and evolving market trends and the associated drivers.  This role will provide updates to the SC business on any key insights or items the business needs to understand from quarterly earnings reports, and news releases and requires someone able to gather multiple sources of data, including quarterly earnings, press releases, market data, to support the SC in delivering on the business commitment.  The individual in this role will expand and maintain a competitive view and provide insights on the connection between SC customers and their end-customers, specifically converters.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Access the competitive landscape (including needed market information) and trends to develop and present insights, on an ongoing basis, and provide the business with a strong understanding of short- and long-term competitive trends and drivers 
  • Develop in-depth industry assessments that analyze market share, growth projections and trends 
  • Provide in-depth analysis of competitors’ products and capabilities in support of the business strategic long-range plans and continuously provides key senior management with current market dynamics assessments, insights, and impacts.
  • Identify and manage the tools needed to conduct in-depth competitive intelligence research and analysis on major customers and key competitors 
  • Provide the business monthly global and regional view of recent major customers and competitors activities and announcements, needed insights and potential impact to the SC business. 
  • Manage the quarterly financial reporting process to deliver a view, analysis, and insights of identified key customers and competitors.
  • Manage the process and deliverable for gathering needed understanding and insights from quarterly earnings / financial reporting of identified key customers and competitors to Grace leadership team and the SC business. 
  • Build and maintain the managing process that couple’s customer and competitor announcements with inputs gained from the sales organization on key movements from customers in the market and any known or uncovered competitive information, develop and ensure the needed overarching competitive view and insights are available for the SC business on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop and maintain a managing process that delivers the needed robust understanding of how competitive announcements support the SC business in making strategic and annual planning reviews for the company’s senior leadership.
  • Build a managing process for delivering deep dives of key customers and competitors, which includes identifying and assessing all relevant assets, markets, investments, capacity changes, and other key inputs as identified supported by sales, business management and technology as well as licensing. 
  • Complete SWOT analysis for key value chain players to support new opportunity value analysis (NOVA), market plans, management reviews and other key business needs.
  • Expand the business view of the connection between SC customers and their customers with in-depth analysis of downstream of these key converters and their end-product / market portfolios.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years (inclusive of education and prior internships) of B2B marketing experience.
  • BS in marketing, science, technology, or engineering fields.
  • Strong customer/market focus and organizational skills.
  • Ability to synthesize data across multiple syndicated and secondary resources to tell a compelling story and help formulate business recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadline constraints.
  • Strong internal and external communication skill.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and business issues with simplicity, internally and externally.
  • Passion and interest in understanding the results included in quarterly and annual earnings reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B2B marketing experience ideally in a chemical technology company.
  • Experience in technology / polymer supply chain. 
  • Market research / intelligence experience.
  • MBA in marketing or finance.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce.com and other databases.
