WR Grace is hiring a Lead Building Engineer to work at its corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD. You will be a member of the Facility Services Team and report to the Facilities Manager. We offer flexible work hours, with a 7am to 4pm highly preferred. Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays if needed for urgent matters.
As a Lead Building Engineer, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of site utility and mechanical equipment such as:
- HVAC
- Boilers
- Domestic Hot & Cold
- Vacuum
- Chillers
- Compressed Air
- Refrigeration
- Cooling Towers
- Natural Gas
- Lab Gases
- VFD Controls
- Building Control Systems
Responsibilities
- Supervise one or more employees.
- Schedule work with contractors and site personnel
- Oversee contract work on any repairs/maintenance to building HVAC systems and address deficiencies as necessary.
- Respond to emergency Hot/Cold work orders.
- Inspect the building’s mechanical rooms to ensure boilers, chillers, and pumps are functioning properly. This is performed twice daily, in the AM and then again in the PM, assisted by Building Management System (BMS) software program.
- Ensure lab exhaust hoods are functioning properly and make necessary repairs when needed.
- Regularly clean, adjust, repair HVAC systems.
- Perform routine warranty maintenance.
- Adhere to proper code standards.
- Interpret policies to assigned personnel and enforce safety regulations.
- Maintain records, files, drawings, and develop safety procedures.
- Communicating with clients and customers.
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and engineers concerning equipment operations.
- Oversee site plumbing needs and improvements.
- Advise on updates, upgrades, repairs and changes to all building HVAC and chemical treatment systems.
- Ordering and maintaining parts/equipment.
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
Required Qualifications
- H.S. diploma or GED
- 8+ years prior experience in a commercial and/or industrial environment.
- Basic understanding of boiler, chiller, and cooling tower operations.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools related to the trade.
- Prior supervisory experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in using computer software to include ARC Facilities, Limble CMMS, SAP Ariba or related.
Preferred Qualifications
- Stationary Engineer License 2, or the ability to obtain this license within 12 months of being hired.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Completion of an approved technical training program in HVAC, or related training.
