Job Description

The Global Process Safety Principal Engineer will assist the Global Director, Process Safety in implementing the Process Safety program and managing compliance obligations at Grace global facilities.  The Global Process Safety Principal Engineer will develop and deploy best practice standards and procedures, serve as a Process Safety subject matter expert to all global Grace facilities, and collaborate with site and corporate functions to champion improvement in process safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Global Director, Process Safety in the development, deployment, and execution of corporate practices and procedures for Process Safety, in alignment with country-specific regulations (Seveso III, COMAH, etc.), and good industry practices.
  • Serve as the primary Process Safety resource for consultation with all Grace global facilities. 
  • Lead Grace Global Process Safety network or community of practice.
  • Partner with the Process Technology and Engineering organizations in the management of Combustible Dust hazards.
  • Independently verify completion of high-risk PHA recommendations, Audit findings, and other high-risk mitigative actions across all facilities.
  • In conjunction with the Corporate Process Technology organization, implement requirements for Reactive Hazards Evaluation in accordance with Grace internal standards and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Maintenance Excellence and Reliability organization to execute the corporate Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance/Quality Control program.
  • Develop and implement practices to manage Process Safety risks related to Operating Discipline and Conduct of Operations, such as Walk the Line, by working with site managers, operations leadership, and all Regional Operations Directors.
  • Assist in the mentorship and professional development of other Grace EHS & Process Safety professionals.
  • Develop and deliver training for company employees to understand Process Safety as a discipline, regulatory obligations, and individual responsibilities related to Process Safety.
  • Exhibit courageous leadership and take immediate action to call attention to potentially high-risk conditions to prevent potential catastrophic Process Safety incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 15 years industry experience, including at least 10 years’ experience in process safety.
  • Recognized industry expert
  • Primary Grace Point of Contact for interface with external process safety industry organizations, industry associations, and select benchmarking companies.
  • Background in operations, process design, mechanical integrity, and/or process safety.
  • Subject matter expertise in application of PHA methods such as HAZOP & What-If, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Facility Siting, Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, Pressure Relief System Design, and/or Safety Instrumented Systems.  Development or advancement of site or company practices in these areas preferred.
  • Function effectively within a team environment (leading and participating) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with Grace facilities and other corporate functions by demonstrating servant leadership.
  • High level of personal motivation, with a drive for ownership and accountability in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Commitment to the highest level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels in the organization.
  • Approximately 50% travel required, including international travel.
