Job Description

W.R. Grace is hiring an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, based in Columbia, MD who will report to Site Manager. The EHS Manager will be responsible for the management, enhancement and implementation the environmental, health, safety and security (EHSS) programs for the Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MD.  Responsibilities include:



  • Manages the following programs to comply and drive continuous improvement with Process Safety Management (PSM): Incident Investigations, Employee Participation, Compliance Audits, Emergency Planning and Response, and Training.
  • Engagement of R&D personnel to ensure safety related activities are occurring in the daily operations and providing guidance and suggestions for improvements.
  • Ensures alignment with Corporate EHS initiatives and objectives. Maintains close communications with Corporate EHS for collaboration and guidance as required.
  • Understand and fulfill all regulatory permit conditions:  Air Permits, Water Pollution Permits (NPDES, Pond), POTW Pretreatment, Radiological Health and Waste. Update all permits as needed.  Develop and maintain strong relationships with Regulatory Agencies.
  • Identify and ensure systems are in place to comply with all applicable environmental regulations and initiatives:  Solid Waste, Hazardous Waste, Clean Air Act (include NESHAPs), SARA reporting, Safety Data Sheets, Spill Reporting, Groundwater Monitoring, Waste Minimization, Pollution Prevention, Radiological Health, Process Safety, RCMS, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics and others as they are identified. Provides technical expertise in these areas.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of reports, applications, investigative findings, disposal, etc, and complete all reporting on time & in full compliance. Maintains Rad license.
  • Develop & implement audits and inspections program to verify compliance and performance to achieve plant goals, including safety, housekeeping, JSAs, PHRs, PSSRs, corrective & preventive actions, etc.
  • Develop & implement regulatory and general training on EH&S topics. Research & incorporate best practices into training to focus on culture shift.
  • Manages the safety training programs to include preparing and presenting at various training (Quarterly safety meeting).
  • Manages EHS tracking system using SharePoint and ensuring data is accurate and updated on a timely manner. 
Required Skills


  • B.S. Degree in Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred), or 15+ years of equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years EHS experience within a chemical R&D setting.
  • Must be able to walk around the Columbia campus.
Required Experience
  • Effective communication skills and ability to engage employees in support of a proactive safety culture.
  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Effective presentation skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional safety and/or environmental certifications (CSP, CSSE, OHST, etc.)
  • SharePoint experience
