Job Description

We’re hiring a Director, Indirect Procurement who will report to the VP Procurement and be a member of the VP’s leadership team. As a Director you will have the responsibility to lead a multi-tiered organization supporting over $700M in annual spend across business-critical categories such as Maintenance, Repairs and Operations (MRO), Facilities & Plant Services, Engineering, Capital, and Professional Services. In addition, you will lead a team of procurement professionals and provide mentorship, development and overall performance management.  

 


We offer two work locations, Columbia, MD (which is our corporate headquarters) or Houston, TX, where we expect to open an office by the end of 2nd Qtr 2023. Relocation assistance will be provided should you relocate to Maryland. Additionally, we offer a hybrid work schedule.  

 

This role also requires the ability to travel up to 25% to our manufacturing sites. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of multi-year strategies for strategic sourcing, incorporating company business needs, market risk, and industry trends.
  • Mentor and drive Category Managers to identify, create, and execute strategic sourcing initiatives within their assigned category to achieve reduced total cost of ownership while ensuring continuity of supply. 
  • Establish annual key metrics for the procurement team, reviewing quarterly the success of implemented strategic Initiatives and the effectiveness against the productivity budget. 
  • Ensure the procurement team is partnering closely with business and site Leaders to identify and act on strategic opportunities.  Continually develop a strong, integrated procurement Group. 
  • Facilitate change management throughout the team and enterprise-wide with an established roadmap to support this evolution. 
  • Optimize and maintain scalable and sustainable tactical procurement processes to drive effective purchasing across the organization
  • Drive further standardization of the tactical procurement process for on-going requirements, providing direction and support across the Group to ensure understanding prior to implementation. 
  • Conduct deep dive spend reviews and business unit alignment regarding Top 20 supply categories across all spend categories within the Group. 
  • Build linkages and understanding between Strategic Sourcing and other company organizations to effectively communicate and influence business leaders and their teams on the vision and progress of Category strategies within the Group. 
  • Build effective and collaborative relationships throughout the company, including Project Controls & Capital Planning, Engineering, Manufacturing, Site Management and Operations, to understand overall strategic direction and capital investment plans.
  • Identify the top 8-10 suppliers, across the Indirect spend area, to create a strategic relationship that will enable, through collaboration, a few key suppliers to work on Grace’s behalf, to drive innovation and change across the enterprise.  The top procurement organizations in the world have > 50% of change/innovation driven by suppliers.  

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in ChE, Chemistry, Materials Science, Supply Chain, or related field. 
  • 10+ years of strategic sourcing, procurement and/or supply chain experience in a world-class global manufacturing company, prefer experience within the chemical sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. 
  • Proven ability to quickly establish authority within the Category Management and procurement organization, along with ability to influence other functions within the organization. 
  • Ability to lead effort to shift from an inside-out culture to an outside-in, customer centric organization. 
  • Strong business acumen with strong internal and external negotiating skills. 
  • Must be able to critically review and negotiate supply contracts and possess a solid understanding of standard contract terms and terminology. Additionally, critically evaluate supplier financial health and capabilities.  
  • Proven ability to use strategic thinking to shape the plan and gain buy-in from the sourcing and procurement organization and other stakeholder functions. 
  • Ability to enlist strong process and project management skills/ability to manage change and prioritize multiple strategic and operational initiatives. 
  • Understand enterprise technology tools that enable sourcing and procurement execution and reporting. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA and/or procurement or supply chain certification
