Job Description


The Director Strategic Marketing is responsible for leading Specialty Catalyst (SC) business industry marketing and regional marketing teams with the goal of driving growth and profitability. This role is accountable for developing and implementing a cohesive marketing strategy that helps support the business unit’s growth. In addition, the incumbent manages a team of regional marketers responsible for deploying regional campaigns and programs to drive demand across products. This position reports to the VP Global Marketing, SC located at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD.


Grace Specialty Catalysts provides process technology for polypropylene and a broad range of high-quality catalysts and supports for specialized polyolefin processes in the chemical value chain, from plastics to petrochemicals.



  • Lead a team of industry marketers to develop and execute marketing strategy for respective segments to drive organic growth and profitability
  • Map near-term and long-term demand to develop strategic investment plans across segments in SC
  • Develop and implement intellectual property strategy for the segment in conjunction with legal and R&D
  • Champion the Voice of Customer process to feed the innovation pipeline and strengthen product portfolio
  • Devise pricing and margin guidelines across segments
  • Collect and analyze market information to understand the market size, environment, needs, trends, and opportunities for products within the segment.
  • Monitor competitive behavior and product performance.  Anticipate competitive response.  Devise strategies to differentiate our products and services and defend our position.
  • Segment the market and develop customer value propositions aligned with the strategy for target segments and accounts.  Drive implementation.
  • Lead a team of regional marketers in the execution of Marcom related activities including trade shows, product literature, and advertising campaigns
  • Deploy programs to close pipeline gaps in targeted segments and accounts
  • Lead the SC Growth Plan process that feeds into the overall Grace planning process
  • Identify and prioritize and inorganic growth opportunities for the SC Business Unit

Required Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Chemical Engineering or related
  • 15+ years of experience within industrial B2B companies
  • Supervisory experience with the ability to influence and motivate
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and executing marketing strategy in the polyolefins industry or related technology

Preferred Qualifications


  • Masters in Chemistry or Material Science or MBA or above
  • Supervisory experience preferably with global teams or in multiple geographies
