Job Description
Grace is seeking a Community Liaison to join our Remediation team, reporting to the Remediation Project Manager and located in Libby, Montana.
We’re looking for a dynamic Community Liaison to serve as the trusted voice of Grace and Kootenai Development Co. in Libby, Montana, and the surrounding area. In this highly visible role, you’ll lead our local presence and build strong, lasting relationships with community members, organizations, and state and local officials. As the primary community point of contact for activities at Operable Unit 3 (OU3) of the Libby Asbestos Superfund Site, you’ll operate with significant autonomy—managing a local office, sharing accurate information, and navigating sensitive conversations with confidence and integrity. Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Collaborate with corporate communications and technical project teams on a comprehensive strategy to generate community input throughout the Superfund process.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with community members, businesses, and organizations.
- Serve as the primary local point of contact for community inquiries, feedback, and information requests about OU3-related activities.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with and provide regular project updates to local and state elected officials as appropriate.
- Represent Grace/KDC at local events and recurring civic leader meetings, such as the Libby City Council, Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, LASOC, etc.
- Engage with community and business organizations to provide updates on OU3-related activities, gain insight on community support opportunities, etc.
- In close coordination with Corporate Communications, develop print and digital informational materials related to OU3.
- Coordinate site tours for members of the public, elected officials, and regulatory agency staff.
- Review community support requests and develop annual proposal for community/philanthropic support.
- Coordinate, manage, and track Grace/KDC community support activities.
- Track local media, neighborhood groups, and social media for OU3 related information.
- Work with Corporate Communications to ensure consistent messaging and responsiveness to community feedback.
Office Operations
- Operate local office as an accessible information resource for the community.
- Maintain office organization, cleanliness, and supply inventory.
- Handle correspondence, mail, and deliveries; greet visitors and schedule meetings.
- Provide administrative support to project team as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in community relations, governmental affairs, communications, marketing, or related fields/roles.
- Related experience desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), with the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with limited supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms
- In office 5 days/week, limited remote work may be approved as needed.
- Occasional evening or weekend meetings/events/work will be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Alternatively, an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (engineering, environmental science, etc.) with communications related experience.
- Familiarity with community relations in small towns or rural settings.
- Understanding of public engagement best practices and local government processes.
- Industry certifications in area such as Public Information, meeting facilitation, etc.
- Experience creating digital and print outreach and informational materials.
- Familiarity with environmental data, remediation, asbestos, Superfund, etc. will be viewed favorably.
