Job Description

We’re hiring a Capital Planning and Engineering Manager who will report to the Senior Director, Manufacturing Excellence and be member of our Corporate Capital Project Management team. You will be responsible for managing the portfolio of capital projects within a business and ensure that all capital projects follow Grace Project Methodology (GPM) and monitor forecast versus spend to ensure compliance with KPIs. You will assist in the development of annual capital budgets to address risk and business needs. The candidate will be required to work out of our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD. We offer a hybrid option and relocation assistance. You must also be able to travel 25-40% to include international.  Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with GPM.
  • Publish monthly standardized dashboard reports and engage with the appropriate stakeholders to understand expectations and set targets. 
  • Review and assess capital portfolio to ensure cost and schedule adherence.
  • Evaluate project documentation and assess completeness.
  • Develop the annual capital business portfolio aligned with business objectives and the growth planning process.
  • Develop capital budget and tracking against forecast and ensure adherence to KPI target within their respective business.
  • Provide visibility of data at the project category and sub-category level to allow for identification of gaps and corrective actions. 
  • Track approvals of requests for capital.
  • Work with functional leaders to prioritize initiatives and elevate for decision making.
  • Manage and lead the FEL 0 and FEL 1 stages for strategic projects within their respective business and ensuring the projects are properly resourced and ready for passing the next stage gate.
  • Ensure that all functional groups that need access to capital have the support necessary to properly prioritize their needs, understand the steps needed to advance through the escalation process including authorization as well as appropriate tracking once approved.
  • Provide governance and guidance to the overall capital process. 

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to execute all phases of project management (initiation, alternatives analysis, conceptual design, basic design and engineering, construction, commissioning, and start-up, close out). 
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with Finance, Manufacturing Excellence, Project Engineering, EHS, Productivity and Reliability and Maintenance.
  • Proven ability to lead change, with ability to influence and gain support from operator/craft level to executive leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications and presentation skills, along with strong business acumen.

Required Experience

  • BS degree in engineering, Mechanical or Chemical preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the chemical or industrial industry
  • Minimum of 10years of capital project management and project design experience
  • Strong financial knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Process Safety Management (PSM).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing capital projects across different regions and PMP
