Job Description

The Business Quality Manager (BQM), Fluid Cracking Catalysts (FCC), has responsibility for the development, implementation, measurement, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.  Major areas of emphasis include product & process quality and compliance to applicable regulatory requirements, customer interface, new product commercialization, management of change, supplier quality and productivity.

The BQM will focus their efforts on the FCC Business Unit, but will also interface with the other Quality Managers throughout Grace to leverage improvements and best practices.

This position works closely with all site quality managers, operations and the various business functions (sales, marketing, R&D, productivity & GM) to drive quality advancements in concert with the business strategy.  This position requires strong leadership and communication skills as well as a solid understanding of the quality processes and manufacturing operations.

This Quality Manager will interface with the Manufacturing Plants, R&D, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Technical Service and Customer Service functions within the FCC business.

The Business Quality Manager will report to the Global Quality Director and matrix to the Integrated Supply Chain Leader for the FCC Business Unit.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Drive quality improvement for the FCC BU by:
    • Working and coaching the respective site quality managers while ensuring quality compliance and continuous improvements in Quality Control & Quality Assurance
    • Establish and implement performance metrics (process capability, first pass quality, COPQ, etc.) for monitoring and measuring performance of Grace manufacturing processes.
    • Partner with Process Technology and plant operations to prioritize process quality improvement opportunities and robust Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA) for product quality escapes
  • Provide Quality Leadership to the ISC matrix by interfacing with Customers, Suppliers and multiple internal functions.
  • Champion and drive a portfolio of product and process quality improvement efforts to increase productivity and provide a platform of competitiveness.
  • Influences the product development process to ensure that new product manufacturing is within the capabilities of the identified manufacturing plants.
  • Act as the key business process owner for Management of Change, Customer complaints, and Customer Audits.
  • Implementation of the Quality Strategy and Vision for FCC BU in alignment with the Grace Value Model.
  • Ability to travel 10-30 %, globally. 

Required Skills

  • Prior experience with PSM and operational processes preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Must be a very capability leader, able to influence the organization, from the shop floor to the senior leaders.
  • Must be able to build relationships with various functional and business leaders in order to drive change in their areas.
  • Self motivated, ability to make independent and informed decisions
  • Solid knowledge of continuous improvement and Lean Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC, DFSS, Lean).  Certified Black Belt preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO trained auditor preferred.

10 years of relevant industry experience

4-year B.S. degree in Engineering or Science
