Job Description

W.R. Grace & Co., a multi-national specialty chemical manufacturing company, is hiring an Assistant Regulatory Counsel- FDA.  As a key member of the Legal-EHS group, you will specialize in regulatory requirements for the complex global Grace business, with a focus on food, drug, and cosmetics laws and have an opportunity to support the company’s product stewardship program.  You will be based at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD and will report to the Associate General Counsel-EHS. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide well-informed, practical legal advice for Grace’s global business focusing on the application to our products of food, drug, and cosmetics laws, and chemical inventory laws
  • Negotiate for advantageous, achievable, and adequately flexible terms in contractual and permitting contexts
  • Provide training on evolving global food and drug regulatory requirements
  • Support due diligence and integration of merger and acquisition targets
  • Work cross functionally and with all levels within the company
  • Advance regulatory, commercial, and operational excellence

Required Experience

  • Know federal and state food, drug, and cosmetics regulatory systems
  • Write and communicate clearly; explain complex information to non-lawyers
  • Convey credibility and trust when communicating in and outside the company
  • Prioritize work volume and meet deadlines
  • Travel up to 20%, some international

Required Skills

  • Admitted to at least one bar and in good standing
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • 5- 15 years’ experience in a law firm, trade association, corporate legal department and/or government agency dealing with food, drug, and cosmetics compliance counseling
  • Experience in enforcement and litigation matters involving FDA required, and USDA regulated substances desirable

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with non-US legal issues and food and drug laws
  • Experience in another language other than English  
  • Interest in expanding expertise into product stewardship regulatory programs.
  • Intellectual curiosity
