Job Description

  • Responsibility for the overall safety and reliability of the pilot plant area
  • Support the Pilot Plant Testing Group by maintaining, developing, understanding and operating the hydrotreating pilot plants and related equipment
  • Requires supervisory responsibilities
  • Work on specialized projects within the group as well as interaction with colleagues from technical service, R&D, and operations, as well as joint venture partners and external ART customers
  1. Works under broad guidelines set by the R&D Manager and is responsible for proper selection, setup and adjustment of experimental equipment and materials
    • Operate all pilot plant equipment efficiently
    • Operates with limited supervision on assignments to be completed within established time constraints
    • May perform experiments of a complex nature involving new technology
  2. Supervise a team of 6 who conduct all of ART’s distillate hydrotreating pilot plant work and related analyses
  3. Schedules and organizes all pilot plant work necessary to complete assigned projects
  4. Ability to train others on pilot plant equipment and procedures as required
    • Coordinates work with colleagues
  5. Recognizes deviation from usual testing or equipment operations and makes adjustments
    • Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance for all pilot plant equipment
    • Assists in the development of test procedures and evaluation techniques
  6. Observes and reports on variations in data
  7. Verbal and written communication with R&D manager on a routine basis
  8. Contacts vendors regarding equipment or supplies and is responsible for ordering all supplies for pilot plant operation

Required Skills

  • Must be computer literate (Windows OS, MS Office)
    • Experience with data acquisition software a plus
  • Good verbal & written communication skills
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Able to work with little supervision

Required Experience

3-5+ years relevant experience (refining experience a plus)

Preferred Qualifications

B.S. Degree in Engineering or related technical field
