Job Description

Grace is seeking a Sr. Technician Specialist to support the Performance Testing Pilot Plant for the Refining Technologies Business at the Chicago site. This role provides analytical testing for petroleum products and feedstocks to support new catalyst development and customer testing. Daily activities include petroleum product testing, spent catalyst characterization and shipping catalyst for customer testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capable of operating and troubleshooting various lab instruments;

Multitek Sulfur/Nitrogen Analyzer, Agilent HPLC – Diesel and VGO Aromatics, Agilent 7890, GC – Simulated Distillation, Density Meter – API gravity, ASTM & Saybolt Color, MCR, Cloud Point Analyzer, NMR – H content, Extraction / Regeneration, Renewables Instruments, ICP, Carbon Analyzer and others as needed. 

  • Analysis of customer Oil samples

Ensuring that oil samples are logged and sent for analysis and that results are received in a timely manner

  • Maintain IATA certified shipper for all dangerous goods

Ensure that oil and catalyst samples are shipped out in a timely manner

  • Training of new employees in pilot plant lab operation and all site safety requirements for this area as required
  • Follow site Safety programs

Ensure that appropriate safety training is completed, look for opportunities to improve site safety and general safety in the Hydrotreating Lab, Adhere to all Critical Life Safety Policies andCoordinate 1 R&D Safety Meeting each year

Required Skills

  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Experience with the operation and troubleshooting of various analytical instruments

Required Experience

  • B.S. in chemistry or 5 years relevant experience for a B.S. in a non-chemistry discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • IATA certification for shipping dangerous goods
