Job Description

The Operations Training Supervisor is required to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.  This position will develop, execute and maintain the training and development of the hourly production team.  Set/publish/maintain the schedule for the three production shifts to ensure individuals rotate through their qualifications.  Ensure that the training matrix is kept up to date.  The individual will deliver content as he/she is qualified to do so and coordinate with hourly individuals to act as trainers as appropriate.

 

Primary responsibilities for this position:

  • Define the training strategy for the hourly production team ensuring that each shift has the correct mix of qualifications to ensure each crew has the appropriate capability to support production.
  • Over sees operations qualification matrix for the hourly production team.  Works with production supervisors to ensure documentation is produced.  Producing the documentation is a shared accountability of both this role and the production supervisor assigned to the hourly personnel.
  • Ensure that all production job training steps are documented as appropriate and logged in the qualification matrix.
  • Responsible for identifying positions that need additional qualified operators; collaborates with production supervisors and unit managers to determine business needs.
  • Manage training assignments / qualification progression for the hourly production team.
  • Manage and maintain training materials and qualification tests for production team.  Ensure documents remain current and controlled.
  • Work with operator assigned supervisors to ensure individual operators are progressing through defined training/qualification.
  • Work with payroll/HR to ensure that progression is current with pay policy.
  • Ensure that new hire performance reviews are assigned to production supervisors and completed as appropriate by the assigned supervisor.
  • Responsible to ensure that training resulting from MOCs or any ad hoc procedures are delivered to the production team as appropriate.  This may come in the form of ensuring training is delivered or delivering the training themselves.
  • Work with qualified operators, group leaders and production supervisors to help training operators on new qualifications.
  • Maintain the production operator schedule ensuring that individuals rotate through their individual qualifications and ensure that individuals are marked on the schedule to receive training.
  • Manages all standard vacation requests (not emergency vacation) and longer term absences (FMLA / STD).
  • Manages the yearly shift and off day bidding processes.
  • Manages operations CLS qualifications to ensure adequate number of certified individuals including re-certification process.
  • Supports large outage events for permit execution as necessary.
  • Assists production supervisors in operator disciplinary issues, assesses capabilities, and evaluates for necessary training 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities in accordance with business needs 
     

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant position experience 
  • Supervisory experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably a chemical manufacturing environment 
  • Experience managing teams and direct reports
  • Experience training and developing employees in an operations environment
