Job Description

Grace is seeking a Reliability Engineer who will report to the Maintenance Manager out of our Chicago 71st location. This person will work within a holistic and strategic approach in addressing all rotating and fixed equipment failures. The Reliability Engineer will create and evaluate plant asset strategies that will increase plant production availability and asset reliability. Other responsibilities:

  • Serve as the rotating equipment subject matter expert and support the maintenance engineers associated with the equipment.
  • Provide oversight over reliability-related programs such as the lubrication, ultrasound, vibration, and condition-based monitoring.
  • Provide oversight to machinery installation, troubleshooting, repair, and startup activities related to rotating equipment.
  • Identify and solve area specific and plant-wide reliability issues using data driven methodologies. i.e. Bad Actor Analysis
  • Provide technical support for PHA’s/HAZOP’s/PSSR’s/MOC’s
  • Supports the maintenance technicians and maintenance engineers.
  • Focus on trouble shooting and identifying rotating equipment issues and recommend resolutions to operations and maintenance.
  • Recommend upgrade/modifications for rotating equipment.

Required Skills

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent background 
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy applications for rotating equipment in a chemical plant or refinery.
  • Knowledge and use of SAP or other computerized maintenance management system.

Required Experience

  • 3 + years condition monitoring experience in heavy industry like metals, chemical, refinery or other process manufacturing industries.
  • Experience with one or more formal root cause analysis methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer certification per Category III ISO 18436-2 Vibration Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics or ANST Level 2 or demonstrated experience.
  • Prefer Machinery lubrication Technician (MLT) Level 1 and 2 certifications.
  • Familiarity with rotary kilns/calciners, rotary valves or belt filters a plus.
