Job Description
Grace is looking for a Shift Supervisor to join our dynamic team.
Grace is a leading global supplier of catalysts and other products and services to petroleum refiners; catalysts for the manufacture of plastics; silica-based engineered and specialty materials for a wide-range of industrial applications; specialty chemicals, additives and materials for commercial and residential construction; and, sealants and coatings for food packaging.
The Shift Supervisor leads a team and ensures the safe and efficient operation of assets, equipment and processes. Ensures leadership and guidance provided to team members is aligned with mission, vision and strategy. Works with assigned team members to ensure timely operations of assets using safe work processes and procedures.
The Shift Supervisor is on site in Chattanooga, TN and reports to the Operations Manager.
The Supervisor's starting shift schedule is nights only rotation:
Week 1: Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat
Week 2: Sun, Wed, Thu
Week 3: Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat
Week 4: Sun, Wed, Thu
Responsibilities
- Supervise a crew of hourly employees assigned to a shift in the performance of a variety of operating jobs
- Plan, supervise and make assignments for employees outlining work to be performed according to formalized production plan
- Safety training and maintaining safe work practices in accordance with the established plant guidelines
- Administration of Company’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures
- Review the work performance of employees and take necessary corrective action to improve employee productivity performance
- Keep informed and answers questions of employees concerning the provisions of the Labor Agreement. Endeavors to resolve any grievances which may occur
- Instructs subordinates regarding work processes and methods of work performance
- Notifies maintenance when prompt repairs and product changes are needed
- Participates in the Plant’s ISO 9002 and Total Quality effort
- Shift responsibility is especially significant when assigned to a night shift
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2+ years in an industrial setting or manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 50 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, chemical resistant gloves/apron/suit, and respirator
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience
- 2+ years chemical operations experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Experience working in an organized and detail oriented capacity
- Experience maintaining records
- Experience working safely in a chemical plant environment and understanding chemical process equipment
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products and SAP
