Job Description

The Process Safety Engineer will have overall responsibility for managing the Process Safety program and compliance obligations at the Chattanooga, Tennessee facility.  The Process Safety Engineer will lead risk assessments, maintain up-to-date process safety information, perform engineering calculations, oversee accountability in the change management process, lead and implement capital projects to address safety concerns, and collaborate with other members of the site  to champion improvement in the site process safety culture.

  • Lead the site Process Safety program in compliance with Grace procedures (Note:  Site is not PSM regulated, but strives to incorporate many PSM requirements)
  • Serve as the primary site process safety resource for consultation with site personnel and business team members
  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) per Grace internal standards and industry best practices
  • Owner of the site Mechanical Integrity program
  • Steward the site Management of Change (MOC) process and ensure changes are properly managed and documented in accordance with regulatory requirements and Grace procedures
  • Participate in property risk insurance audits and take the lead on driving identified corrective actions to completion
  • Provide training for all site employees to understand process safety as a discipline, regulatory obligations, and individual & group responsibilities related to process safety
  • Subject matter expertise in application of HAZOP/What-If, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, Pressure Relief System Design, or Process Control

Required Skills

  • Background in operations and process safety highly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment (leading and participating) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of personal motivation, with a drive for ownership and accountability in performance of job responsibilities
  • Commitment to the highest level of integrity and ethical standards
  • Periodic travel to the Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, and other Grace sites may be required

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years industry experience, including at least 5 years working in a PSM-covered facility
