Job Description

At Grace, one of our critical positions we routinely hire for is a Technician Specialist. This role supports different aspects of our front-end development and/or enhancements of our products. As a Technician Specialist you may work in a variety of different departments such as R&D, Pilot Plant, Analytical Services, and other Laboratory-related departments. To support the need for hiring talent, we are developing a pool of candidates to support our future staffing needs at the following locations: Columbia or Curtis Bay MD; Chicago, IL; Baton Rouge, LA; Pasadena, TX.

Responsibilities

Example of Job Responsibilities that may be included: 

  • Assists engineers and scientists with a variety of laboratory tasks in environments that could include:

o    Laboratory 
o    Pilot Plant
o    Large-scale Manufacturing 

  • Performs chemical analyses and scientific tests using both routine and techniques in compliance with all safety standards. 
  • Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory samples. 
  • Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines. Active participation in required local safety program, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab 
  • environment. 
  • Operates, maintains and makes basic repairs of laboratory equipment, including instrumentation such as GC, ACE, DCR, Particle size, XRF, Leco, etc 
  • Performing tasks associated with the daily operation of Pilot Plant equipment including but not limited to using Pumps, Reactors, Spray Dryers, Flash Dryers, Mills, Filters, and Calciners.
  • Safely handle, store, and transport chemicals including potentially hazardous chemicals.

 

Example of Work Schedule that may be included:

  • 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week or rotating 12 hour shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required.

Required Qualifications

Example of Required Qualifications that may be included:

  • BS in a STEM discipline, with Chemistry highly preferred. In addition, prior lab experience is highly preferred.
  • H.S. diploma or GED equivalent years of experience.
  • Knowledge in basic chemistry and strong mathematical aptitude. 
  • Experience in laboratory techniques, analytical chemistry, or a similar scientific method
  • Strong mechanical aptitude that includes experience working with different types of industrial equipment. 
  • Knowledge of SAP.

Physical Requirements

Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
